I recently received a gift card redeemable at the major Canadian book retailer for my birthday, and thought of this book;
This retailer generally charges more than cover for this kind of stuff, so I wasn't surprised when I found their listing it for $52.50 (a little over $6 over current exchange). I figured since I was given this gift card, I could justify the expense, especially since my our of pocket wasn't even half of the cost. I bought their last copy, which was an "online only" title(!?) I just received it today - from a cursory glance it looks like a great book, and I can hardly wait to sit down to start reading it!

Search ebay "Arnie The Farmer Beswick NHRA"
Seller has two listings with slightly different pricing. I got this one, a little cheaper. Nice book! |

I have a question, and I hope it doesn't come off as insensative.
I have finished going through this interesting book, and went through the end of the book a couple times before coming back here; There is no mention of the 2019 fire; Was the 2019 fire left out for a strategic reason? (like say, closeing the book on a high note?) https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...=832832&page=3 There is mention at the very begining of Arnie's wife's passing, which seems to have been about three months after the fire. (hopefully that does not come off crass either, I don't want to seem to downplay the passing of one's spouse.) That linked thread seemed to "end" with the understanding of all Arnie's merchandise went up with the barn, and no meaningful suggestion on how we as a community might support him. I truely had no real idea how big of a deal he was to waving the Pontiac banner in the 1960's prior to reading this book - I just associated him with nitro type race cars, and being more of a pure stock/super stock fan myself, I didn't know that his history might be so interesting. To put it in perspective, I knew more about Pete McCarthy (via his "bible") than I did of Arnie... and it seems as though Mr McCarthy is never mentioned these days... Did the 2019 fire have any impact on him being able to attend post-covid19 gatherings?

I just received my copy from Dean yesterday. Like most of us, I scanned through most of the pics first. Being close to Arnie and the family, I had seen most of the car pictures before, but not all of them! Early childhood pics and pre-Pontiac pics were interesting. I have only read up to page 28 carefully so far. Dean is weaving an honest, carefully crafted biography of the most dedicated, determined, and fierce advocate for the Pontiac brand ever. It's a shame, his efforts were not rewarded with the kind of factory backing he had certainly deserved. Many of his contemporaries have accomplished far less with far more factory support. He was the ultimate underdog who found a way to win against incredible odds. For those who know him, he is the real deal. Highly recommend this book for Pontiac fans and anyone else who enjoys learning about the men who made drag racing.
