I want to paint the steering wheel collar (Grey)
I have an 80 pace car turbo trans am
I want to paint the steering wheel collar (Grey) I just read an article on VHT wrinkle paint on the forums and how to use My question is what paint can I use to replicate the grey color on the collar for the 80 pace cars? as always THANKS AGAIN |

I just did the one for my TATA last month. Turned out pretty nice. I used a 2" roloc on a die griner and took the original finish off with medium, then polished it with fine. Here are some action photos.

I heated the collar on my shop heater for a few minutes prior to painting. Directions say to put the paint on thick, but dont let it run. I used SEM colour dye. First time around the SEM ate the VHT paint off like it was paint thinner. So I had to strip it and start all over. Second time around I used Rustoleum grey automotive primer spraying light coats until it had a good base. The SEM went over that really well. |

so rust oleum grey automotive primer to create a good base
Then SEM 15393 Medium Gray Color Coat -12 oz. Question so no VTH wrinkle paint ? |

The black collar in my post is the VHT wrinkle paint. I did not have a pic with the finished colour. But yes, on top of the wrinkle paint I used the rustoleum primer, with light coats. The SEM ate the VHT off the first time around and I had to do it all over again. The rustoleum seemed to act like a good barrier between the two.
