Don't know jack
Can anyone tell me, based upon these two jacks, which one is correct for a '66 or a '67. One, both, or none. One has a solid T section and the other a roll formed and welded hollow section. The solid one came with our '67 LeMans and the hollow one came with our '66 Tempest. The hollow section one, with it's squarish shape, seems to fit better in the trunk stamping with the spare cinched down on it.

I have what I believe is the original jack to my 67 Tempest and it looks like the "hollow" one you have pictured.

I think it depends on the assembly plant.

Both of my 67 original jacks had a square post with a matching square hole in the base. It looks like your one jack post is trapezoidal in shape which would be a later year jack. The '65 big car jacks also have a square post so I would say that the middle '66 year A and B bodies did also.

The "T" jack appears to be '64 style but the rectangle base I've not seen before, possibly B-Body??
The jack on the right is '66 A-Body, there are a few different flavors but that is the more common.

Jacks
Your T jack is dated 9B, Feb 1969. So for sure not the one for your '66 or '67. The date should be on the top rivet of the tube style mech. Paul

The T profile (saw tooth) jack was last used in 1964. Except in Fremont cars which were already using the hollow stalk jack that is to the right in your picture. If you study the base of your saw tooth jack, I think you will see the letters A-B. The 1964 GTO/ A body saw tooth jack had a square base, and B body had a rectangular base. Sometime in the model year I they switched over to the rectangular base (safer) for both A and B body cars and thus the A-B designation.
On the 66 jack that you have, I have also seen it with the rectangular base, though I could not determine the why or when or where of suppliers who had the rectangle vs square base in 66 or 67 |
