Default Do we have bots??

Whats up with the 1000+ viewers in the street section lately? The last few weeks there is always a super high number of viewers shown even with only a small number of new or active threads... this morning & still now after noon there are only 2 or 3 active threads with new posts but 1071 viewers?!

It's great the delayed posting & email notices are fixed the last few weeks... but the high number of viewers seems excessive, its usually a couple hundred or maybe 300-400 on a busy day or weekend. Just curious why the large number of viewers all of a sudden.

I've heard it said recently that 50% of internet traffic is bots and web scrapers. Pretty sure that AI scrapes data from forums like this to create their "intelligent" responses.

Probably thousands of people asking Chat GPT "What's the best cam for my Pontiac?"

Yes

And I suspect the AI tools would do a decent job condensing the cam recommendation discussions on this site they have "harvested".

Everyone checks in for the dead person of the day thread and my carb is stumbling , what do you think it is?
If you’re looking how many people look at posts, maybe try a online date site

Just to stir some caca, CoPilot recommended an Edelbrock Performer Plus cam to deliver the highest torque below 4500 rpm on my 1970 350 with a QJet and dual exhaust.

The specs look the same as a Summit 2800.

Not a bad suggestion IMO.

Party on, bots.

Bots rule the internet. The reason a lot of sites come up first on internet searches is because of bot traffic. When you have 5,00,000 people looking at your site, but 100,000,000 bots viewing another, yours is going to be further down. I am not saying that is what is going on here, just on some sites. A lot of bots are also searching for places to advertise, hence our frequent irrelevant bot posts. Dataway is correct on another driver of bots, for AI programs.

The bots diminish significantly when forums charge for membership account set up.

How many of those "users" are legitimate members vs bots or spammers?

I was on yesterday later in the afternoon to reply to a PM I got, looked at the street section real quick and saw 1500+ people viewing but only 3 new or active threads going on... I see 2-4 fresh spammer accounts/posts almost daily... yeah we have bots & spammers.

Guess the question is are they friendly BOTS just trying to get our site to the top of the list or attack bots that are data mining .

One of the crazy things that’s going on right now is the AI bots like your use for tech support being utilized on stock sites trying to push down certain stocks values same with many political sites. You really can’t belive anything you read in comments anymore even. Most people
Don’t even know this stuff goes on they’d think it was science fiction.

But when there’s money or power at stake you’d bet there gonna use anything they can

Idk what the play would be in here though other than grabbing advertising info. Maybe

I think most of the bots with an '88' in their name are click bait type of posts.

They figure out of a million posts there will be someone to click their links.

242- do you find it odd that the most users EVER online has doubled in about 1-1.5 months based on your updates?

Is it normal for the street section to go from an average of 300-400 viewers at any given time to suddenly having 2000-2500 practically all the time, every day? Only 4 active threads going on right now today but there are 2500 viewers in that section alone?

Concerning to be sure. Not sure what the further
implications might be but it surely has resulted in
a lot more work for the mods.
