Gtolovedaddy,
Here are the pic's of the NOS RAIV pan assembly you asked about. The lid is, in my opinion, near 100% gloss. The base I feel is very close to the gloss level of the lid, but suffers from less than ideal painting technique. The base is STILL more glossy than the other orig. paint under my hood.

Very interesting, my 70 judge inner fenders are a gloss black and the cowl is a flat black with kind of a texture also.

The flat black with the texture is correct on the cowl... that is the "black out" paint that was used on the firewall after the body was painted in order to cover the overspray and firewall chalk markings.

Here is a picture illustrating the rough flat black vs the 60 deg gloss.

Is everyone in agreement that the diff. case is gloss black ? I am getting different info from some Pontiac restorers that say it should be natural steel, or detail gray ?

Well.... Are you going for "factory correct" or "points"? Unfortunately
they're not always the same. The post "diff case color" I think it's called, describes the correct process pretty good.

Natural cast iron for the centersection and the axle tubes should be bare metal.
Then the axle and suspension was blacked out when the frame and suspension was upside down so the runs would drip "up".
