Food service industry. I believe it started out in supplies for resturants and snowballed into grocery supplier.

Involved in the Meat Packing House side of the game from what I read in one of the Real Estate listings. Went to full service supplier for a lot of stuff. Now he does the land game.
I was able to get some pics of the spread from one site. But cannot post them up as protected. Go to Google Maps and type in this address: 3585 Tanners Mill Circle. Map, Gainesville, GA 30507 Look for the RED ROOF 166 car garage at the upper part of the screen. The Main House will be due South at 6:00 (on a clock) from the garage. Big "Spread" Tom Vaught

How awsome would it be if they made this property into the Pontiac Museum? I think you can even have room to add a dragstrip

Matt can correct me here if I'm wrong, but the "missing" convertible is a 4spd with a blue deluxe interior & a blue convertible top.

Probably room but too hilly, not flat enough. I was there for the auction last November, nice place.

I meant the "missing" 8th TA convertible details

For years it had been reported that only 7 of the 8 were know to exist. Number 8 of the 7 is what I was looking to find out if it existed, or had been crushed as reported back in the 1980's. |

The thing that sometimes clouds the facts and fuels the rumors - is i believe they have a "list" of all 8 - and their VIN #'s. And some may refer to each one as it appears in order on the list, top to bottom in order by VIN. I'm not a subscribed member to that "list" though. Just like we have a "list" of all 17 of the 1971 Judge Converts. 3 or 4 of those are unaccounted for. But if you mentioned "what about 15 16 and 17" ... well - those #'s are accounted for on the "list". Quote:

Thanks Paul. Just tell us if Milt really previously owned 3 seperate 69 T/A Verts in past - or not. I think i heard about him having one in the past. Wouldn't be shocked at all though if he has owned 3 of them. The best part about Milt's Pontiacs was he shared them openly with the Pontiac world and us of less fortune. |

Milt really did own 3 '69 TA convertibles at one time. He then sold two of them.
He personally told me he thought about it and decided nobody ought to own 3 of 8. He was very nice to invite me and others to view his Pontiacs and other collectible cars over the years.

Thanks Pontiacman for that account.
I had never known that before, or just can't recall it anyway. That was an incredible event owning 3 at one time. |

I knew Milton from back in the 70's when he started his foodservice business. He built a business supplying meats and other products to small restaurants around the Gainesville and NE Georgia area. He built the business on SERVICE, not price. When his competitors only had salesmen at your restaurant one day per week and once per week deliveries, he had the salesmen at your place twice per week and twice per week deliveries; so if you really needed something, you could get it brought to you one of 4 days in a week! That was very important to small operations that worked on a limited cash flow and/or had limited storage space.
I can remember at first he actually ran a route as a salesman himself, driving a 70 SS El Camino. Of course that is when gas was 30 cents a gallon. Occasionally he would even drive the delivery truck if one of the drivers was out. He rapidly grew the business by expanding his product line to include practically everything a restaurant would need, including produce and equipment. IIRC, when he finally sold out to a major foodservice conglomerate, he had over 50 tractors on the road, servicing the entire state of Georgia, parts of SC, NC, and Tenn. I'm thinking this was in the late 90's. He was already in the commercial real estate development business, having developed several major tracts in Gainesville and Oakwood. My wife and I have known Milton and his wife since before they actually married, in the late 70's. We've dined at their house and they've dined at ours. When you cut through the top layer with him, he's just a good ole country boy that's made good. They difference is that he is always thinking about the next deal and has been for years. Back in 1976 he came to me and wanted to buy a small chain of 24 hour diners and wanted me to run them for him. The deal never worked out, probably for the good, but I could see from talking to him that he could see money in any deal. BTW, I haven't talked to him since the auction day, but he was keeping 11 cars. 1 was the 'Pink Lady' a 59 or 60 Pontiac that Pete Estes (I think) had specially built for his wife. He has some of these at his place in Daytona Beach. LaClita (his wife) told me that they really don't care if they sell the place or not, they're just looking to the future and toward downsizing. She said Milton will probably just fill the barn back up with cars!

Thanks for that account Jerry.
I knew you had eye to eye relationship with Milt and his ongoings from way back. We were fortunate to have a collector like him in the Pontiac world, here in the southeast. He talked to me once at a GTOAA National meet in Kentucky in early 90's. Had no idea who he was at the time. We just talked about 70 GTO stuff a lil while next to a Red-Red-White 70 Ram4 JVert he had brought to the show. Real people type person, had no idea i was chatting with a millionaire. lol Found out about a week later. |

They know how each one was built/equipped. They know where each one was sold from when new. But nobody knows where the last one is hiding. Many inspiring enthusiasts have tried tracing/tracking the VIN across the USA via various methods - nothing found. Its the one built with Blue Top like The Boss mentioned. I think it was the only one with Blue Top. It either left this country, or left this world. |

I think there were three with the blue top Todd and some believe it still exists and is still in the country, and some believe they have spoken to the owner although I have not heard of anybody laying eyes on it yet. It has been said that the current owner of #8 does in fact know what he has.
Although Milt has owned 3 of the 8 (or 7) I do not believe it was all at the same time, although I believe he did have two of them at one point. The hottest one to date (not counting the stories revolving around the one Gary owned ) has to be the one Matt sold to Charlie, & Charlie had restored then sold to Phil which moved on to another owner this past year for a 7 figure number.
