Default Where to find Trophy 4?

I've been looking around for one of these engines for a while and I've never seen one come up for sale?

Are they that rare that there just aren't many of them? Any ideas for good locations to look for them? I've been wanting to play around with on for a while.

I want to build something turbocharged. I’d need basically everything. I wouldn’t necessarily need the head, but otherwise a complete engine. Wouldn’t have to be running.

If its going to be a performance build, make sure you have a "thick" block. Look at the front of the block where the head meets the block. It should be flat & straight across. The thin blocks have a couple of scallops across the front top of the block.

The guy is selling him a 63 4 cylinder so most likely a thin wall block

Seriously? am not a '61-63 Tempest guru, offered my '63's 4bbl engine up very cheap as I do not not need it, have a well built 447 going between the LeMans' fenders. Rest assured will be ck'ing the 195's block casting out as well as carefully disassembling & measuring each cyl bore & crank throw with my Starett tools. For nearly a decade, I kept one of the nations largest Pontiac crate engine builders in 400 6x-4 cores, with next to no comebacks due to problems with cores.

The 63 castings can handle some power, just not max efforts. I would guestimate 400hp? charlie66 made over 700 turbo hp (if I remember right) with a heavy early casting 61-62 block. As some of you know my friend makes around 600hp with a 4/71 blower on alcohol.

There were some thin blocks in both 62 & 63 years. If OPH's 63 is a true 4 cyl, 4 bbl engine, its most likely a thick block. We would need the numbers off of the front of the block & also a picture of the front of the block where the head meets the block to tell for sure if its a thick block.

No dog in this hunt.

Just wondering if the serious T-4 engine guys have hoarded up all the cheap engines/parts they have found, thru the years ?

I know the serious 301 Turbo guys do it.

And there are probably hundreds of 400-up Pontiac guys who have shops & sheds full of the cheap 400-up stuff they've found. I know my shop was full, 'til I til I decided to sell the shop.

But hey, that's better than letting the scrap iron guys take it to the crusher. It's sad to think of all the good Pontiac stuff that has been crushed, thru the years.

The old school wreckers are rare anymore. but one of the most likely places beside craigslist to find one? Look often and you will find one.
