No
But have seen a couple of 79-81 vintage TA's with legit vinyl tops.

The first one created quite a stir at a friday night Poncho hang-out called B-Bops Drive Inn , in later 80's.
White, Red Interior, Red Top - no hood bird - 403 car
The stir was to witness the trim tag
About 30+ Poncho fanatics (including wives/girlfriends), none of us had ever seen one before.

I think Rocky hit the nail on the head. 70-72 couldn't have it with the stripe. Not sure if they made them but never seen one on a 73 TA, 73 firebird, yes.

1974 was 1st year for the vinyl top option in the 2nd Gen TA's.

Another long term observer of Trans Ams here...and have personally seen factory installed vinyl tops only on '74 models. Have seen maybe 6 in my life (3 of which are pictured in this thread...).

Go back to post #15.
Rocky gives an explanation of why you won't see one on the 70-73 TA's

Mine is one of those in the photo, white with blue top. At one time I think I had 7-8 identified. But I've lost track over the years. I've never seen one earlier than 74 or later than 75 and that's what Rocky said. I'm not sure if we can trust him but for now I'll take his word for it. LOL.

Default Sold a 1973 Esprit with remnants of a factory vinyl top about two years ago.....

Navajo orange originally with a white top and deluxe interior
350/T350 originally, had a 400/T400 when we sold it.

Was a Nevada car its' whole life with ZERO rust or rot.
The entire plastic interior was another story - powdered badly.

Unfortunately we never ordered PHS.

I'll have to look and see if we have a pic of the trim tag.

So they evidently made a few Esprits with vinyl in 1973.

Vinyl tops were available on the Firebird except the Trans Am until 1974.
So Esprit and Formulas had vinyl tops available all the time.

Good luck with your sale, Jay.
Very good looking SD TA.

A friend of mine in Wilmington NC had a red 74 SD 4-spd that came with a vinyl top. It had been raced and had a few modifications like driveshaft loop,, subframe connectors, and was missing a few of the original engine parts. I believe he also told me the roll cage had been cut out before he bought it. Anyway, he restored it and deleted the vinyl top. The last I heard, it's somewhere out on the west coast.

I've probably seen or heard about ten 73 - 74 Trans Ams with vinyl tops over the years. I came close to buying a white 74 455 automatic car with the deluxe white/blue interior and blue vinyl top many years ago.

Its not an SD but my 74 was a std 455 auto, bird delete and vinyl top, I don’t believe it was an option either prior to 74 on the TA but I may be mistaken.
