Default 1972 GTO WW5 w/4sp for sale on Ebay

Saw this car on Ebay. Looks like a real nice frame off restoration. Lots of money spent on this one. Anybody know of it? Rare 4sp car. Did not think you could get the 4sp trans with the 455 HO in 72. Also looks like it came with electric locks with manual windows. They don't show the PHS order sheet in the ad. Neat car, rare, but surely expensive to buy. I also like the monarch yellow paint.

In the previous thread "Calling All 72 WW5 Owners" this WW5 GTO was introduced. From the text the current owner (a PY member) presented the car was specially ordered painted Black, & then the original owner had the car repainted Monarch Yellow. While that was a novel event, unfortunately, the way the car was painted is going to hold it back compared to other comparable WW5's.

It's great to see some detailed pictures showing what has been holding it back.
Has been a mystery to me.
"sort of" been for sale -unpublicized mostly- for several years at what seemed like a fairly realistic price . iirc {60k ?}

We knew it had been color-changed from its original ultra rare Factory Black .
But no idea it was also yellow underbelly, firewall-cowl, and underside of hood.
I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful - but it is shocking to see it was done that way.

Would have perhaps been a quick-easy sell @ 75-80k if had been done back to original colorings throughout.

To piece it back down to really get the right colors applied properly will be a fairly heavy task.
But it's a great car in super excellent condition.

WOW, that was a lot of money spent to restore that car incorrectly. Damn shame, would be worth so much more in it original RARE black.

Also, I personally hate seeing the splitters just welded to the exhaust tubing. Gardners does a great job on the correct exhaust. I speak from experience and have it on my car

This is an example of why you don't take your prized Pontiac to a MoPar restorer.

Actually, the guy that restored it (Dan Green) is known for Mustang restorations.

The way I read some earlier info is this '72 WW5 Special Paint memo BLACK car was painted Monarch Yellow soon after it was delivered to the original dealership. I assumed it was still with that 1972 repainted exterior finish. So it has been "restored" since then?

Was restored years ago by the son of the previous owner.
Without digging back into his posts - i think it was already yellow when his father got it as a used car when it was not very old. Not sure what year his father bought it.

Half of the info we found on the car was from his archived posts on another forum.
Lloyd knew of the car many years before that.
And it was already restored then.

This looks correct. The car was found in South Carolina where it had been drag raced and had serious rust issues . It was shipped to Utah and restored by Dan Green in Salt Lake City. I believe he’s known for his work on Mustangs and this I believe was the first Pontiac he had restored. The son of the earlier owner learned the car was originally black but chose yellow for his Dad.

Mr. Green needs to stick to Mustangs.

So - was there a color change to the interior at the time of the exterior change? If not, how common is sandalwood interior with black exterior?

Also - what the hell? - "273" scrawled on the firewall trying to imitate the factory markings? Maybe the original markings were yellow on black? (sarcasm)

The interior color is saddle (darker than Sandalwood I believe).

They went a little bit overboard with all the yellow paint under the hood.

Seems nutty to me given that the car came to the dealership in a good rare color, and the value in that today is to put it back according to the build sheet. Of course the bodywork & prep to paint a car like that back to black would be a lot more in labor and primer than it probably cost to paint it lemon yellow.
