70 gto cowl tag question
Hi guys
Wondering if any one has thoughts on this. My body guy has done a beautiful job on the restoration of my GTO. He and i have questions on weather we should remove the cowl tag in order to make it look really nice. I say this because it looks fantastic except around the trim tag. You can still see a bit of surface rust that was there and the only way to make it look great is to remove the tag and reinstall it. another concern is that i don't want any rust creeping out from the tag, Long story short... should i remove the tag and do it right under it and reinstall it. Any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks Gene |

My opinion is NO do not as it will never look original and will open a bunch of questions if you want to sell the car in the future
|

Are the rivets still available? There used to be a guy named AG Backeast who could supply the correct ones, but he's out of business - I think he retired.

No need to touch it. Detail and paint around it. Period. Red flag otherwise EVERY TIME.

Trim tag on cowl?
Rivets are available. There is a special punch used to set them. You can probably set them with a regular punch if you are careful. Buy a few extra rivets in case you damage one. I removed my tag to blast/prime/paint and messed one up on install even with the special tool (glad I had ordered an extra). Do a little before and after photo documentary on the process.
That should cover the bases pretty good. And buy the right type rivets to go back with. |
