Offenhauser for 1960 389 engines
Ive seen a few 1960 Venturas in magazines with offenhauser valve covers and manifolds, I think they look great and want to get some for my car.My search thru parts catalogs and the internet keeps turning up a goose egg.
I have a 1960 with a 389 and stock 4 barrel carter carb. Can anyone that has installed these give me any advice on locating the parts? Do I have to modify anything?(part numbers would be greatly appreciated) , and If i do get a manifold do I have to install an after market carb or can I keep the stock carb. My engine runs great, and was debating adding Tripower, But I think just adding these parts will be slight upgrade over stock, and will make my motor look killer. |

they are available. I saw a dual quad set up with AFB's at Pamona swap meet fro $350.00 OBO. Seen several bare dual quad intakes on ebray go for lest that $125.00. so shop wisely.
Mine is a 65 and latter one but I only paid $100.00 for it and it was only slightly used and in excellent condition. people will tell you they are very popular and they are until you try to set them up. Then you find out why so many vertually unused brand new ones are for sale. No published info on setting them up. There is a book that just came out...for a second time, on the AFB's and thelatest eddition includes the Ebrock. But there is no real usable info in it. Sorry but its true. |

Thanx for the info.
I just saw a manifold but it was a dual quad set up, for 1961-1964. It was cheap too, $125. Im know A 1960 389 is a hard engine to find parts for, but damn. I gotta figure out whats the major difference between a 1960 and others. |

the big difference is the bell housing, flywheel and starter choice on the rear and the accessories, timing gear cover, water pump set up on the front and the induction set up.
The actual guts of the engine are same same. dont be twarted in your efforts. It aint easy and it cost but just keep in mind that the factory went racing with this set up.....and won. |

55-60 motors are all pretty much the same. In 1961 they changed the heads, intake and timing cover and water routing.
You can find Offy intakes for reasonable prices. I got mine for 150 including shipping. A lot of people say that 61-64 offy intakes wont fit pre 1961 motors but they do. I'd keep an eye out on ebay.

lots of early intakes from Edelbrock,Offy and M/T have both 55-60 and 61-64 water patterns built into them. There is a removable freeze plug that gets moved to work with the proper year heads.Tom

I bought a 61-64 Offy dual quad set up for cheap. I put it on my spare motor to see if it fit and it fit my '59 motor. The water crossover is a different shape but I used a gasket to see how it lined up and it lined up perfectly with a '59 motor.
