Default 1960 Tri-Power...what is it worth?

I keep trying to decide on buying a '60 Ventura 4 door hardtop to use as a "just-in-case" parts car for my '60 2 door hardtop. The guy has been wanting $3000, and is now down to $2000. It has a totally complete '60 Bonneville motor in it, with the entire Tri-Power (air cleaner, all carbs, linkage, lines, etc.) hooked up. Looks like it hasn't ran in years. I would plan on the motor being bad.

It is something I absolutely do not need...but I can't avoid thinking that I will regret not snagging such a good parts car. It also has a 3 speed manual tranny. Am I dumb to let it slip past me?

The complete 3x2 setup with the correct air cleaner is probably worth $1500.00 if it is good and correct.

Buy the car!

aircleaners used to bring 1500 by themselves, maybe repop now?

that big car stuff is not too popular but what there is of the desirable stuff can be scarce and costly

The guy has repeatedly listed this car on the local classifieds (KSL.com). The car's ad says it is in Hooper, Utah which is south west of Ogden. I think I will always regret not getting this parts car, but I should wait at this time. I need to actually use my pennies to finish my current project... Here's a link of the ad below. And I do remember the car being listed for only $2,000 about one week ago, with the ad stating offers accepted.

I think that you are making a BIG mistake by not buying this car! It has a 65-66 Caddy tilt/telescopic column, Speedminder, fan shroud etc. It will have a good rear end gears and maybe a posi.
This car should part out for good money. Buy the car, take what you want and sell the rest.

Crap...I didn't even know that the column was a desirable one. Same with the shroud... Maybe I'll call this guy!

Manual transmsission cars are a rarity and the parts usually bring big$$. Also, a tri-power car probaby has a posi rear which also worth some $$. If it was close to me I would buy it.

The ad says it has safety-track. If you look at the end of the axle shafts which are exposed thru rims and you see two color swabs in the center of the hub, it's a safety track....paint might not be there anymore, but they were originally identified that way....I found green / yellow on mine....3.08 ratio according to the manual. If this was close to me I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Agree they all should have had a posi but my old Bonni (425A) with 3 speed had a open 3.42.. Guess posi could have disapeared through the years..

How's retirement PRC..

I went and looked at it. It is a 4 door hardtop Ventura, and the body panels I wanted it for aren't that great. The motor is a low compression (2 barrel) code block. The tri-power looks good, all hooked up and solid. Each carb has its correct tags, etc. The outside carbs are frozen, though. I decided to pass on this car...which is probably a mistake. If any of you guys want it, the owner is very interested in getting rid of it. he also has all of the codes/numbers from major parts.,

The stick parts and tri power parts are worth well over 2K. If you don't need the stick parts let me know

If they can't move under their own power, they are giant paperweights. It would be great to be able to strip it down and sell it off, but unless you have an immediate need for the parts, buying old Pontiacs to speculate on future value probably isn't the best way to use your space or spend your money.

I just looked at a honey pot of '60s stuff, but it filled a 3-car garage to the rafters -- while my own garage is already stuffed. You really need the space to do something like this, even if it is only temporary.

That said, you could get the Ventura for a good price, throw on a known carb and ignition to get it moving, then keep the tri-power and flip it to someone looking for a manual trans changeover. They would get all the parts with the car thrown in free -- probably a solid $500 from the boneyard just for the steel or sell it to Indiana Pontiacs.

Good luck!
