Default Carter WGD replacement

I am looking for a replacement carb for a Carter WGD 2bbl. Has anyone on here used a Holley or other later style carb as a replacement? I'm not sure what will fit and what won't.

More information would help.

Pontiac used the Carter WGD in 1955 on the 287, and in 1956 on the 317 engines.

There is probably nothing that is a bolt-on swap.

SOME VERSIONS of the Carter WCD, Rochester 2-GC, and Stromberg WW would fit the intake. You would have to recalibrate any of these for the Pontiac engine, and fabricate linkage and fuel lines.

Holley 2-barrels from this time-frame that would fit the manifold would be the model 1901. Lots of folks do not like these units, often referred to as the "haystack Holley" or the "teapot Holley". Recalibration and linkage fabrication would be more difficult for one of these than the others, plus parts are not so readily available.

I am unaware of a Holley 2300 with the required mounting pattern.

I am not familiar with the Holley 2-barrels used in the 1970's and 1980's.

Not understanding why you wish to replace this carburetor???

The WGD was one of the most expensive, and (opinion) one of best 2-barrels made in this time-frame. They are virtually indestructible, and with Carter metering rod technology, infinitely adjustable unless you need more airflow. Parts are readily available. If you need more airflow, switching to a Pontiac 4-barrel intake and Pontiac 4-barrel carburetor would be less expensive than trying to adapt the wrong carburetor.

The original carb has damage around the jets (looks like screwdriver marks) and corrosion in the fuel bowl. I don't necessarily want to replace it but I am looking for more information if that becomes to best option.
