shaker - flapper.
How many of you guys put one of these in? Seems like a weak spring and vacuum opens it.

The car I just purchased already has one but it isn't working - neither is the car but that's another story...
I'm hoping to set something like this up however. Hopefully a small bird doesn't get sucked in there...haha |

Yep - I'm running one on my 74. The thing I liked the most about it was that I was able to remove the old block off plate and install it without any modifications to the shaker at all i.e. it's reversible if needed.
Opens fine under mid to full throttle and allows for a bit of intake 'roar'. Probably makes little to no difference in performance, but it's much cooler than having the shaker opening completely blocked off.

My 74 shaker was already cut out, so I put one of these in and it works great. opens and closes with engine vac. He also had a kit that would make it open via a switch and plunger set up.

I don’t even have screen in. Wide open. Never been an issue. Even during the years the car was my daily driver in Portland.
I thought the block off plate was mostly about responding to noise regulations? I don’t see rain or other stuff getting through the opening in the shaker to any problematic extent..
