I'll be leaving Saturday a.m. for Rapid city. Taking the route to Minneapolis and then south to Sioux City. I don't have a Sol trailer but I do have a rack for the trunk. It does give me a good reason to limit what my wife can pack. The last time traveling out that way (POCI convention in Spearfish) we stopped at the Pioneer Museum. It is interesting. After seeing signs about every mile starting 50 miles out I just had to see what it was all about. Also did a "drive by" at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.

Wall Drug is in the small town of Wall, about 55 miles east of Rapid City. The home of "free ice water", a 6' rabbit, a big mechanical T-rex that comes to life every few minutes (will scare small children), etc.. In other words, tourist trap! Kinda fun place to visit now and then, if you don't mind crowds.
One of the cafes burned down the other day, so there is indeed a "black hole" there.

/\ /\ Heh. Go figure. That thing has been under construction for the better part of my adult life and don't think I'll see it completed. Can you say "milking it?". Mr. Ziolkowski left detailed plans so that a competent firm could finish it in a few years... We drive by it (stopped paying to go in years ago) at least once a year but hardly notice any changes, but I digress.
It will be quite a carving, once finished.

Yup - $30 best used for gas money cruising the rest of the Hills. You can see CH from the highway.

Had a great time in SD! Great roads & good people all around. We had 96 cars actually show up for the event (not counting the 10 or so local cars that noticed us and joined us for some of the fun.) I am told there are 76 cars in the attached group photo, my car is easy to find it is the grey car in the front row to the right of center. (the red Sky next to mine is the only other Mallett that attended this year, also a LS2 5-speed manual car)

The 2nd picture is the last one I took on the return trip with a side trip to Pontiac IL, and a long overdue visit to the Pontiac Transportation Museum (thanks TIM for all your efferts!)

the 3rd pic is on the way out at a rest area in SD

and the last one is a shot of the Badlands just after a big rain and hail storm. I caught a Rainbow forming over the badlands in the rear view mirror.

In the first pic I'm the last car on the far right, last row.
We had a great time too. Didn't take many pictures though.

Hank are you going to West Virginia next year? Those are all great drives, we drove them all 4 years ago. And as a side trip you can go off and do the back or the claw of the Dragon.
