69 GTO in storage since 1985 with 33K on it at $18K with a reserve in CA. NM with bench seat and column shift. Teal car with a white vinyl top. Sounds like they really wanted a Lemans, but it just wasn't fast enough.

Back in the late 70's cars like this were the bomb. Now... I still love them, just not $29.5K much with a Chebby engine in Nebraska for this 67 Firebird convertible.

67 GTO tribute convertible restomod with an LS engine in NY. Only $1K with no reserve, expect to get pulled before it's done, but it's a nice car and worth seeing what it bids up to.

Can't blame a guy for trying?
Pretty nice for a chevontiac...just look at the crazy prices on BAT altho it seems to be a bellwether of the market in general. |

Take that car as a decent convertible Tempest with no rust? Now get the body straight and have it painted... how much for that? Now put an LS engine in it with a new trans and add power FDB and PS... how much for that? I get where you guys are coming from, but if you just wanted a nice driving updated drivetrain that fired right up and ran beautifully, this car is pretty nice. I like the engine. I have over $14K in the 400 Pontiac in my 75 Trans AM. Those parts are cool when done, but the parts aren't cheap. I replaced everything but the crank and rods... everything. 72 cc Edelbrock D-port heads along with an all aluminium top end with Trans AM RAIII exhaust manifolds into a Thrush exhaust. It's fun and it's fast, but it runs like all Pontiacs run when they're built in the 70's. If the same car had a smooth running newer FI intake, it would be nicer to drive. I'd do it differently if I got to jump in the wayback machine. A new crate Chevy 350 is half the price of building a Pontiac engine. An LS engine is more expensive and the LS3 in my 2010 Camaro SS is a friggin monster with 426 hp and a six speed stick. The short-throw shifter in this car is really cool if you've never driven one. A Pontiac 4-speed takes a good foot long throw to shift gears. This car felt strange the first time I drove it, because all I'd even driven before was my 70 GTO 455. Shifting gears is really fast and this car is fun. When I take off from a dead stop and punch it, I'll hit the red line at 6K around 50 MPH and put it in second and pull my foot off the gas and it slows down to 65 mph. It's also hard to break the tires loose and it handles awesome. Good news is the price on these newer retro-based cars is also going up. I've rented high end Mustangs and Mopars and while the Mustangs I drove were not very good, the Mopars were. Bottom line the car needs the tail panel changed to a GTO one and a set of bucket seats. I love red interiors and I found a full set of Inferno orange seats for my Camaro shipped for $1200 off eBay and these are SS only leather seats with "SS" in the headrest. They had <40K on the donor car and it's such a cool red. These are nice seats with air bags and they are beautiful. The 2010 SS rear seat is a fold-down. I really doesn't look too complicated to see if it would work in a first gen... not sure about the GTO. I'd put a black set of buckets in this car with new door panels and be done. I'd drive it just like it is, but the tail panel would bug me less than the interior. I'd guess a good deal on a car like this is $35K... that's a good deal, because it would probably cost you more to build it. I don't have $42K and I'm looking to downsize, but if I just wanted to buy something to drive, I could see paying more than $35K for a car like this. Dern nice looking car. eBay Linky to Camao seat example. I have the black fold-down rear seat out of my 2010 that's like new. I traded the front seats (60K on them) for a pile of flagstone to my bud who's putting them in his 55 Chevy truck. If you're interested in getting the dimensions or buying it PM me. https://www.ebay.com/itm/14458585115...0AAOSw7tNimkfy Last edited by thews; 06-24-2022 at 07:45 PM. |

I think there’s a good chance it has the 400-2V that they produced as a no cost option 67-69. At least that’s what the air cleaner is telling me.

70 GTO convertible in Florida at $24.9K BIN OBO. A good example of a car that's too far gone to bring back IMO. I can't see a body panel that's usable, so all you really have is the nose, drivetrain and VINs; I wouldn't buy it for $10K unless it was some uber rare car.

69 Lemans Sprint convertible at $100 with a reserve in NH. Rare to see an original stick with a wood wheel, Rally gauges and walnut shifter. This car is loaded with rust, and has some cool options.
