Classic car insurance
Havent checked them all, but was wondering do these quotes sound in the ball park to you.
Hagerty..........$502 year American Modern........$306 1966 Gto...........threw in the value of $35000 I was under the impression i could just pay for the summer use...........and storage for the winter............seems like this isnt gonna happen. Just curious on what you guys are paying for something similar...........just wondering if im doing something wrong. Right now with state farm, i pay $265 for the summer and $ 37 storage for the winter. This is with a agreed value of $ 25 thou.............which after reading up on some stuff, this might not be a true statement, thats why im looking into something else. Looking thru some search options, seems like the california boys are paying alot less than the quotes im getting............which seems strange..........i live in WI Rich |

I haven’t switched yet but I plan to go with Grundy. If I remember right it was similar cost to your hagerty number. They don’t have as many restrictions on driving though which I liked

Not sure about restrictions from Haggerty as I was not aware of any, but I am very happy with them! 3 cars & a total agreed value of $75k
Remember there is a difference between agreed value & appraised value! God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...closed.614419/

I have read many threads regarding ins on several forums. Everyone seems to have their favorite.
I have Grundy. Agreed value on my trans am of 30k, premium is $190 year. Been with them for 4 years now. I compared with hagerty and Grundy was just a bit less. I spoke with them in person after I got the quote on the computer. They are somewhat relaxed about the use of your car. They told me "they encourage people to drive their cars". Just cant use it as a daily driver, parked in a garage, and its factory stock. If I want to take it out for a drive just because, they have no problem. I have not had it on any long trips or tours but I would check with them before If I do to make sure I have continued coverage. Also includes towing and all the other happy crap. |

I usually check annually with all the classic coverage companies I can find and they are all very close to each other. Not enough difference to sway me from my current provider.
Rates vary with each state and zip code within the state. Michigan has the highest rates in the country. PIP coverage is optional or mandatory in some states. Insurance rates with historic registration are generally cheaper than standard or correct year registration. The amount of other liability coverage you feel you need varies. Deductibles, options, etc. I say you need to be well protected now more than ever. Especially if you're surrounded by distracted drivers. I relate it to the new Equinox TV commercial promoting active braking, where the couple almost rear ends a truck, but the active braking saved the day. This and blind spot detection just shows that you don't need to be a good driver anymore.

Hey thanks guys, will have to look into Grundy, from the above post, quite a bit lower than Hagerty..........i was just surprised to see the rates close to each other no matter where you live. Rich |

I think Hagerty uses Essentia insurance as not all insurance companies can write in every state

Regarding Restrictions.......
I just got my new Hagerty policy in the mail yesterday & in the "Policy Highlights" area it plainly states " You are not restricted to parades or car shows, we encourage you to drive your cars!" God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...closed.614419/

I have been with hagerty for maybe 20 years. very reasonable, dozen cars or so.
i keep values at about 75% or less of what i consider to be true value. i figure odds of a total loss are slim. the only time an agreed value would be applied is theft or total damage estimate in excess of the value. i am very careful when driving and have never had an issue on the road. what matters the most in selecting insurance company is how they respond to an incident. saving 10-20% in premium is not necessarily the most important factor. i avoid the extras....towing coverage, etc. Never needed it and have a car hauling trailer if i do. i do not know how the other companies respond, but i had 3 cars damaged in a fire and hagerty came through very well. sent an adjuster to meet me and view the cars, came up with solid repair estimates, wrote me a check. i could then do whatever, whenever i wanted for the repairs. they will always have my business. just checked and i have 11 cars, total agreed value of 205k, annual premium $1264

Hagerty is the best in my opinion. Join their Drivers Club for a few bucks a year and you have towing covered. Grundy has piss poor towing reimbursement and why many avoid them.
Hagerty has always paid out on my claims with no questions asked too. Best insurance company I have ever dealt with. |

I've had AAA Auto Club collector car insurance for many years. My '66 GTO is insured for an agreed $50k, and costs $199 annually. It's been the same price since I got that policy 15 yrs ago. The only restrictions (as I remember anyway) is not using for commuting, and you have to have other (non-collector) cars insured by them.

Hagerty also had an option to "buy back" a totalled classic for a few dollars more on premium.

All I know is that Hagerty has jacked up their rates. My policy has gone up 100 bux a year with no claims or changes in coverage.

I actually saved several hundred dollars over Grundy. I had 5 cars insured with Grundy and have been a customer with them for decades. Grundy does do a 2% increase in coverage annually to help keep up with increases in value. Haggerty does not do these annual increases and states that owners need to stay abreast of values and choose the coverage they need each year.
As far as a increase over last year with 8.5% inflation the cost of everything has gone up. Home insurance has seen huge increases over past years due to increase in material and labor costs as well as big increases in property values. Replacement and repair costs for home repairs has gone up and so have premiums. The same could be said for material and labor costs for classic vehicle repairs. |
