Porsches, Bentleys, Audis and Volkswagens up in flames...
Ship carrying 1,100 Porsche and 189 Bentley luxury cars is burning and adrift in the ocean.
"A massive cargo ship holding thousands of luxury cars, including 1,000 Porsches, was left floating across the Atlantic Ocean after it caught fire near the Terceira Island in the Azores, the Portuguese island territory. The ship departed from Emden, Germany, on Feb. 10 and was scheduled to arrive in Davisville, Rhode Island, on Wednesday before a fire broke out. The 22 crew members on board were safely lifted out of the burning ship via a helicopter, as seen in a video. Authorities did not specify the exact amount of cargo left on the the 650-foot, 60,000-ton ship. However, automotive website The Drive reported that the cargo ship is also carrying 4,000 vehicles from the Volkswagen Group, including 189 Bentleys and an unknown number of Audis." https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/sh...?ocid=msedgntp

We waited about 4 months for our BMW to come, over, tracked the ship from port to port, the wife would have been extremely annoyed if the ship had caught fire and burned up. She had to wait for it from Germany because she just had to have the Cashmere Silver

Automotive News said it was a battery from an electric car that may have started it and is involved.

If you have a dead short, it really makes no difference what type of battery is powering it. It's going to start a fire if the battery doesn't go dead, or isn't interrupted by a safety device.
Tow truck drivers have to be now educated on how to safely tow damaged electric cars away from the scene of an accident. There are two safety scenarios they have to be aware of, fire, and electrocution. You can arc weld with a 12 volt DC battery, electric car operating systems have from 100-800 DC V. Teslas do catch fire in this country, no reason other electric cars can't start a fire also........... |

That will be big news if it is verified after the full investigation. I have been teaching hybrid vehicle repair and battery electric vehicle repair for about 12 years or so now. The available amperage is no joke and people need to be very careful performing some repair functions on these vehicles. As mentioned, some systems have well over 550VDC and extremely high amperage available as well as lots of storage capacity. Takes allot of electrical energy to move a 4500 lb. vehicle 0-60 in just over 2 seconds. Electrical/battery fires are a no cost option!
