PC guru's, anmy idea on this one??
My PC in the last weeks has decided to drop internet connection (can't surf web stuff/can't dwnld email) for no good reason. The connection is USB from PC to cable modem. I tried cable in another usb port, no change. Odd thing is that when the PC connection drops, I can fire up the laptop and it works, can surf and can dwnld email on the laptop. So it is not my cable modem or the wireless causing the issue. If I reboot the PC it is fine again. Typically as long as I am on it and using it the connection stays. The moment I let the PC sit idle for a few then try it again NOTHING.
Any clue?

Is the USB port on the motherboard OR on it's own expansion board?
For 15 bucks I would install a 10/100 network card and do away with the USB method of connecting. Another thing to check is to make sure the settings do not turn the port off if the machine is idle- this is common on laptops but maybe there is a power save mode on your desktop? |

MB mounted USB ports. I do have a Nic card, I guess I should try that next. Tonight, I went away for like 2 hours, came back and it was still working. I now could walk away for 5 min and come back to NO connection. Really odd.

Did you reset the cable modem? I used to have to do that a couple times a week.
