Carter AFB
Bought this Carter AFB from eBay and description said from a '65 GTO. It's going to my '65 Bonneville and everything looks ok besides the throttle lever. Can anyone identificate is this really from a GTO? Not that it matters as long as it fits and jetting is correct but just for curiosity's sake. What is supposed to attach to the lower 'pin'? It has a tiny hole going through it so first thought the return spring but too small to fit the spring through.

The throttle lever indicates you´ve got an AFB from a fullsize Pontiac as they use a ball for the throttle rod from the pedal.
The lower pin on lever is for the cruise control unit chain. The only way to positively identify your AFB, if it lost its ID-tag on one of the airhorn screws, is to look at the cast numbers on the airhorn and the floatbowl and on the small stamped numbers on the venturi nozzles. HTH |

That bracket with the ball will just unbolt and you can find the correct one for your application.Tom

Ok, those numbers belongs to a 1964 421 A/T AFB #3651.
Calibration is somewhat rich for a 389 A/T in the idle/lowspeed cicuit but overall it would work fine with todays ethanolblended fuels on your 389. |

Thanks for the info! Now I just need to buy a rebuild kit for it and get it ready for the summer. Maybe electric choke, too.

Idle circuit is rich; primary metering slightly lean.
Try it, but two possible considerations depending on how it runs: (1) Modify the curb idle adjustment for a conventional idle screw (adjusting idle without it may prove challenging). (2) Fatten the step-up rods on the high vacuum step. Jon

The post above is where you NEED to get your carb kit. Jon has top shelf correct kits that work and fit correctly. I've been using his kits for 25 years. There are none better!
