Default Underhood Temps

What do you guys figure under hood air temperature gets to on a 90 degree day in the summer with the AC on?

Just wondering what plastics can be used under the hood. They used quite a few plastic tid bits back in the 60's and the technology wasn't very mature.

I know nylon would be OK, not sure about ABS, or polycarbonate.

On my Grand National (I know, apples to oranges) the IAT sensor was reading between 110° and 130° depending on how fast I was driving. That was with the air filter all the way up to the radiator support behind the drivers headlights. I've moved the filter to under the support in front of the front tire, and the temp drop was incredible.

So my guess is if IATs were that high at the filter, which was far away from the engine, the under hood temp must be higher.

Well that's a start .. so I can figure on 130 at a minimum. My gut feeling is around 150-160 on our older cars. As temps go up and the Delta T between underhood and outside goes up it's going to start dumping heat into the sheet metal pretty fast.

But, I really have no idea, the fan pumps a lot of air in there, even after going through the radiator it's still a lot of air that is cooler than the surface of the engine.

this isnt really body shop related, probably get more replies in teh street or cooling section

would be real easy to use a infrared temp sensor & check under hood temps after driving awhile in the summer.
