Default 2012 Jeep Wrangler Dies out at stop light.

My 2012 Jeep Jk keeps dying out when I come to stop light. I've replaced the battery. I did a hard reset. Maybe a crank sensor? What are your thoughts?

I also scanned it and no codes or check engine light.

Does it die when coming to a stop and applying the brakes or just dies while sitting there? Does the engine die any other time?

just curious about the mileage I had a Van die at the stop lights .....and it ended up being the spark plugs of all things since the newer cars go 100,000 before changing. The gap was .45-.55 and just wasn't firing. Changed to new NGK and problem solved! now have 390,000 and counting.

Can it be that the torque converter is locking up and therefore stalling the jeep ? Does it feel like it’s trying to pull at all?

If you throw it into neutral does it still stall?

Does it restart just fine?

I put new spark plugs in it @ 85000 miles. Now it has 98000. It only dies out after i sit at a stop light for a minute. So I just replace the crank sensor. Hopefully that does it.

What if you step on the throttle a little . Hard to diagnose without being able to mess w it and test things .

So I changed the crank sensor and so far so good. The problem with holding your foot on the gas and brake is you don't know when it is going to do it. It will idle fine and just die out.

On the same track as turbo69bird if lock-up TQ doesn't disengage it will stall. Like you were driving a stick and forgetting to push in the clutch. Any trans work recently? Filter?

Cross fingers on that! BTW does it restart right away? Also FYI a quick/easy check of a crank sensor and your car has a tach is to watch for movement should be able to see 2-300 rpm while cranking.

Still no issue. There were a couple times it would not start back up right away. It would just crank.

I know you said it had been scanned and no codes. However, there are many kinds of scan tools. It may be helpful to have the Jeep scanned with a full spectrum scan tool. One way you would know if this has been done is by the way it communicates with the scan tool. When first hooked up, the scan tool should be able to communicate with your computer system and publish your car's VIN number on the screen. If it does this, it is capable of pulling all the codes from the various processors on the Jeep. One that year probably has 15-20 processors. This may find trouble codes that will NOT turn on the check engine light. A generic scan tool generally will only report and read emission related codes. Long cranking before start of often an indication of a CAMSHAFT position sensor that is failing. Often will not turn the check engine light on. The engine will crank and when #1 cylinder can not be located by the cam position sensor, the engine module will just pulse all the injectors at once to get the engine running. This gives you a long crank time. Once running, most people don't notice any difference in performance. Good luck with it.
