So last night I wanted to take my 70 T/A out to Titusville to see the rocket launch, but for some reason the taillights weren't working.

Signals, brake and reverse were fine, but no tail, rear side markers or plate light.

Left her home and took the minivan instead (boo)

This morning I dove into it

All fuses good, but no juice to the plug in the driver's side quarter panel

Figured it might be the splice at the headlight switch, so I pulled the dash trim, unbolted the switch and pulled it out.

Someone has definitely been in there before as it had mismatched screws (some with painted heads)

Checked out the H/L switch and it was fine

Tested the rear splice on the plug and that was fine as well

After a little digging under the driver's side step panel, I found the main conduit cable had been squished underneath it.

Loosed it up and immediately got juice to the taillights again

Sliced open the insulation and all the wires looked new inside

Bent and tugged on each one, but didn't find anything cut or frayed, so I just put everything back together

I had the H/L switch hanging from the harness through the cutout on the bottom of the dash while testing, but after putting it back together, now I don't have dash lights

The little ground strap thing that goes between the switch and the cluster was put back exactly as it was and all of the bolts around the cluster have good ground according to my meter

What am I missing here?

Clean the printed circuit where the harmonica connector plugs in. Also does the illumination for the fuel gauge work? Or this just a problem in Central cluster?

Turned out to be the short fuse for the dimmer

It actually tested good, but needed to be rotated in the holder for proper connection

I'm guessing when I probed it with the test light I probably knocked it out of place

I hate dealing with old school wiring
