Who has run 255/60/15 tires all the way around on a 70-73 TA?
Many guys with late 70s TA's and the 15x8 WS6 wheels say you can run the 255/60/15 tire on the front with no rubbing of the inner fender wells.
This tire is slightly shorter and wider than the original 225/70/15 on those cars. But what about the early 70's TA's? I would like to run this size all around on my 70 TA, which is lowered 1" in the front, on a 15x8 wheel. The 235/60/15 is approximately the same size as the original F60-15 on our cars. Are our fender wells the same size as the late 70s cars? Thanks! |

Rub on sway bar at full lock perhaps, adjust accordingly if an issue.

Running a set of 265/50/15 Radial T/As (old) on my 73's front end on 8 inch wide 15's.
Bummer Goodrich dropped the 50 series 265 and no 255's either Zero offset wheels. I have a set of the 15 X 8 snowflakes without tires- can't do it right now but will try and update when i get some new tires mounted up on them in the future. Last edited by 455dan; 11-30-2021 at 10:48 PM. |

I haven't run that size on the early cars, but I've had several 77-81 T/As with 255/60s on all 4 corners and they fit great and look awesome.

My old 1971 Trans Am with factory springs. The honeycomb wheels had 255-60-15 tires and the tires did not rub. The rally II wheels (KR code) had F-60-15 tires.

I run 255/60/15s on all 4 corners of my '73. On rare lock-to-lock occasions I'll get a slight rub. They're on the factory rally 15x7s.

275/60 up front? thats a awfully big tire for the front & will rub a lot easier on most stock height or lowered cars. got any pics of the car with 275's?

I don't have any pictures of the 79 with the later model wheels on it & the 275's.
Just some older pics when it still had the 15x8 Snows on it. 4spd 4WDisc Loaded My youngest brother bought it from me and still has it. Can check sometime with him for pics of it with the 275's. They were on it when i sold him the car. I thought they looked good on that car too. Bought those tires (Goodyear Eagle ST) "as like new" on the cheap via local trading post - they were on a pick up truck a guy had just bought and he wanted dual purpose tires on the truck. The 73 was my SD. It had 255/60 Gyear Eagle GT when i got it - when it needed new tires i bought new Eagle ST 245/60 . And almost didn't like the 245 look versus the old 255's. Took a couple weeks to get over that hump. This was all back when i drove those cars on a regular basis in 80's early 90's. Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 12-01-2021 at 08:14 PM. |

If it helps this is my 79 (with 77 fascia) and 275/40 17’s all the way around

One reason I prefer staggered with the wider front track and wheelarches. Still looks great obviously!

275/40s are only 25.7" tall.. 255/60 are 27" tall.

Years ago I had 255's on a '79 10th anniv... no rubbing..

I run 255/60's all around my '73 on 15 x 7. No rubbing.
I had run 255/60s on my'70 and had some rubbing issues on the front. Went to 245/60 on the front and the problem was solved. |

Had a set on 7" Rally 2s, and a few sets on 8" flakes and turbo wheels.
