While it's great to see these other methods recommended your cautious perseverance is much appreciated, seems you have a few knowledgeable people involved.
With the kind of funding it takes to get this far, not to mention the next steps, I'm sure you as well as everyone involved want to ensure the best outcome possible. I was so elated to see the part number will appear on both styles, that'll teach em, looking forward to the next update, as always, much thanks Tom. Frank

I expect some racers would welcome a plastic intake. I suppose it depends on the grade used, but it could help offset some of the development costs? Food for thought.

FYI,plastic intake can only be run dry. There is a way to make them last for a few dyno pulls but for extended use with fuel going through them they wont hold up.Tom

Tom, just curious if you know the overall height of the intake including the top?

Mike,I can get you a number from my car, where do you want me to measure from?I looks like it can be shortened close to 1/2 inch by milling some from the top.At least thats what Jim Robertson said.I know it fits under the hood of my 63 tempest with 1/2 in spacers and some spark arestors of sorts.I have not run air cleaners on the engine for 22 years.Tom

Tom, have you decided on a plenum design yet. Flat floor or V- shape? Will you gear the manifold for street strip or more towards full race? I'm sure the street guys are going to want great tdd throttle response. This is very exiting, you have made great progress so far.

Will others kick in to a go fund me page?
Tom I would be the first to kick in a donation for $150 to help the cause. I know you are spending a lot of money to do this. Maybe it would help if others would like to help out? Just thinking...sorry if it’s not an idea you comfortable with.
Sometimes next day I feel stupid with the reply’s I send in. Hopefully I’ll be ok this time. |

Don't need it thanks.Worst I end up with a plastic intake and the original one converted by Jim Robertson. Will also have a couple scans including the Solidwork. When the plastic one gets done and it fits my engine then it will be pay up time for the 7 early ones. The Solidworks will have the flanges changed to make the late style.Getting a little closer.Tom

OK,another step finished. The Solidworks file is done and now going to the 3D printer. If perfect that and the file will go to the pattern maker after I get deposits from the buyers of the early version. Will keep everyone informed.Tom

I was watching a video the other day where someone was 3D printing engine parts directly into metal - they were making an exhaust header out of Inconel. No raw tubing required, they just formed the part with all its shapes and turns from a container of powdered metal. I'm sure the machine to do that sort of thing is crazy expensive, but it shows where the technology is going.

The machines are around but the cost to do metal is prohibitive.I have looked into it.Tom

I read the article in Smoke Signals about the early Bathtub intakes. Great article! Didn't even know about this thread until now. I might be interested in the early design. I need to decide on this week if I am in!. Will let you know Tom! Would be cool to own a bathtub intake! Awesome you are doing this venture!
