as with so many things ...its all about real estate! I'm an F-body guy...never had an A,B or G body. I know in my late 2nd gen f-body it was ALL I could do to get the 3" pipes out from underneath the car to point OUTWARD behind the rear tire just really really tight area. To try to make the "TA TIPS" actually be right...wasn't going to happen with 3" pipe...NOPE. I would find it almost impossible to do a '74 style bellmouth out the rear with a 3" ...hard enough to get the 2 1/2 to fit there. IN STOCK CONFIGURATION. Now when you have a fuel cell no sway bar...you have options. Sometimes its not WHAT you WANT ...but more like .."how the hell do it get it to just WORK"...

Darby, what size are your pipes and where does it split at?

I always preferred shotgun slash cuts….not a fan of downturns in any configuration….too much sh$&& flying around

This is what I'm going to go with. I couldnt make the straight out pipes look right.( angle of the rear quarter vs the exhaust ) so I went with a little bit of a turn down. Not visible from the side at all except the turn down at the end. It all tucks up next to the gas tank. I will probably shorten the length that they stick out some more.

Quote:
Sometimes the angled down tips can look like they're sniffing for a gas leak or something, but those have just the right amount of tilt.

Scott: Those look really nice like that. I did a complete 3" mandrel system on my wife's car including the tips. It's been removed for the 3.5" that's on it now. I tried to get pic right, no luck

Previous owner got these from Ames, suppose to be a factory option in '68.
I like the looks of them and decided to leave well enough alone.

i have the torquetech (if that's how it's spelled) BW kit on my TA
their kits were just amazing i like the BW exit over the outback exit i had previously i sort of like that first gen f body look of pipes exiting just behind the wheel (BW) and just a slight glimpse of the pipes i wish i had the $$ when they were closing up shop to pick up a few kits to have on hand all i have heard from their kits were nothing but positive reviews/raves especially great for those not near a custom exhaust shop like i was/am.... boy do i miss the shops on Long Island... some good ones for custom exhaust for sure kindda sucks we have lost some great vendors/options like them.... makes you realize how old things are now.... including me.... scary at times... |
