Default Radio Noise Suppression

Just installed an under dash FM converter....which runs through the stock AM radio in my 61......

Plays well in the accessory position.....but lots of interference when engine is running...in FM mode

Engine is dead stock other and addition of an externally regulated alternator.

I obviously require some sort of static filter/suppression...

Have some 60's and 70's GM parts cars here.....that I could rob something from...

Any input is appreciated..

Are all the factory grounds still intact too? The factory used a mesh copper wire for radio noise suppression.

Make sure the converter has a good ground to the dash/firewall/engine/battery negative.

The worst thing to do is to share a ground wire from something that carries/noise or can get noise injected into it.

Car is extremely unmolested...other than alternator conversion...but I believe generator might have had suppression capacitor.

There are braided ground straps on each head to upper control arms and back of both heads to firewall..

I have the converter grounded to lower dash with jumper leads......for testing.

Will hard ground and see if that helps

Plug wires were the cure for me after chasing my tail on this same issue

Default Narrow Things Down

Un-plug the alternator to rule out or verify interference from charging.

Any live wires are supposed to be as far from the audio wires as possible.

I have one copy of the manual left, $10. It’s about that to ship. If you want it I’ll get it out after Dayton
