Default Junky cars buddies bought

have any experiences as this?

talking mostly as youngsters at that age when money was earned. and rare.

ones I recall, we were all around 15 just starting to drive.

one bought a 67 camaro v8 2bbl 2 spd powerglide for 600 bucks. month later it needed a new engine, brakes right away, exhaust right away. I out ran it with a brand new volkswagen 4 speed rabbit. my dad was a new vw salesman I got to drive his company cars. never forget he was talked into trading it for a fellas 1958 chevy 2 door. boy his dad was upset, needed brakes, full of bondo, rattley and just weird. aftermarket shifter, weird generator on it, poor running engine.

another bought a 1972 chevelle ss for 800 bucks. rust bucket already even way back then. rough interior, 4 speed 396. engine ran poorly always had issues. but we all were in awe of the "big engine" in it. think it must have had a 4 spped rock crusher though, we all thought the whine the tranny had was cool. or maybe it was just low on lube all the time, ha. my brother out ran him with a 4 door 1969 tempest custom s with a 350 2bbl.

another a 65 impala i think was an ss not certain. got it for 300 bucks, junk everywhere. i recall we went to mcdonalds in it and the driveshaft fell out. lol we knew nothing as to why etc. and we pushed the car couple miles back to his house.

thing is, we were all just happy and desperate to have wheels. back then no car was very uncool. I walked to high school for 2 years and man i hated bein seen walking.

un-related but never forget a friend had just passed me and my brother walking, he was in his GRANDPAS perfect condition 1964 impala ss 4 speed. he stopped to back up and give us a ride, he reved it up and dumped the clutch in reverse! crazy. lucky he didnt break something.

those cars were everywhere who would have thought the rarity. friend had a 1972 455ho formula, he wanted headers, did so and thru the exhaust manifolds right in the trash can. literally. no idea they were good stuff.

got off topic but so many fun memories!

In 1969 a friend had a 1954 VW. Engine leaked oil faster than he could put it in. About 35 miles/quart. But it was a great car for beating around in on Friday nights and going to the lake.
Another had a 57 Bel Air convertible. He beat the ell out of it. Finally one day it died and he left it on the side of the road

A buddy had a '70 Chevelle. It was a nice car when he got it. He wrecked it a couple times and finally ended up rolling it.

Back in the 80's there was another '70 Chevelle running around. It was a SS396 4 speed... probably a $50,000 car nowdays. Guy offered it to me for $1000. Being the broke idiot that I was .. I passed. Over a period of about 8 months I watched that car get destroyed...

Cool

Back in 75-76, my neighbor had a 65 Ferd Galaxie 4 door that he bought for $300. It had a 352 with dual exhaust with a number of holes in it, rolled galvanized sheet metal pop riveted to the rusty quarter panels and pieces of wood under the carpet on the back seat floor.
We would take it to an old dump or out on gravel roads and do donuts with it.
We thought it sounded like a race car with the noisy exhaust!
We had to carry a can of WD40 and a couple of rags with us to dry out the front mounted distributor every time we hit a puddle when it rained!
We took a couple of girls out one night, hit a puddle and had water blast up into the rear floorboard and soaked their feet pretty good! Last time they ever went out with us!
Lots of good times in that old POS!!

I've got some good memories of old cars,,good and bad. A 50.00 68 Chevy 2 nova,,6 cylinder power glide ,,beat the crap out of that thing and it just kept going. Also bought a 71 torino gt for 50.00 off a car lot because a freeze plug had popped out and he wanted gone. That car wasn't actually that bad in condition.
The question I have is will the today's battery cars ever have these cool old stories and memories ? No. Can you imagine one of these cars on lot at 15 years old and you look at it just to find it only needs 25,000 $ worth of batteries to get it back on the road again. Like when I buy a printer and when the ink finally runs out and you go back to the store only to find out the replacement ink is the same price as buying a brand new printer so you just buy a new printer and throw the old one. Or buy replacement batteries for your drill that costs almost as much as a new drill..
Savor your old car memories.

My buddy has a 68 Laurentian (Canadian Poncho) with a chebby 350.

We could comfortably seat eight - he would shut it off and coast in a feeble attempt to save gas and we had to lean out the passenger door while it was open to clear the railroad tracks w/o bottoming out.

It was hand painted sh*t brown with a roller.

Memories...
