Replacing hood hinge springs on 67 GTO
Hello everyone, I need hints on replacing the hood hinge springs on my 67 GTO. The hinges are on backorder but I need to plan ahead. any hints, suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance, I know many of you have done this and I want to learn the easiest way.

I used an old fan belt, hooked the spring to the back of the hinge and pulled the spring forward with the belt until it could hook on the front. Just make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before, have a hearty breakfast to build up your energy and be careful not to slip.

I removed the hinge assembly from the car. Using the frame of my home built hydraulic jack and a come-a-long hooked to the spring with chains, it was an easy task to spread the spring and remove the hinge.
installation is by spreading the spring and positioning the hinge within the hooks. |

I use the old fan belt method. Of course you need a reliable helper to hold the hood fully up while changing the springs. Once it comes off, you're committed to getting the new one on. And remember to cut the belt so that it can be removed from the spring. One minute per side or take it all off of the car.
