Default '64 GTO Energy Absorbing column conversion

Anyone converted a '64 steering column using a '67, or other donor, to eliminate the solid steel spear? Is it probable or even possible?

Pros/cons and parts list would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if that is possible. Since it wouldn't be stock why not look into an aftermarket column.

You can remove part of the lower shaft and weld this in or cut and machine flats in you OEM shaft and simply just use the tube:
