Thumbs up SPOTTS STOLEN MOTOR FOUND AFTER 7 Years

Paul asked me to post for him.
As we speak(type) the Police are in route to the shop that has his old Firebird engine/trans combo.
Short story,I was looking at buying the drivetrain, went over and checked it out.
Described the engine to Paul, sounded like his, even the same color(black).
He went up with a list of part numbers and they match.
The shop where the car is now just bought the whole car and is in the clear. More to follow.

Thanks for posting Bob. What an amazing week I'm having. Monday I find out one of my customer/friend dies suddenly and today I see my old 455 and 1/2" stud painted TH400. The engine looks like the day I saw it last - less intake, carb, distributor and different headers. It is in a red 68 Camaro that raced the Edelbrock series (on windshield). The engine was listed (incorrectly) on godragracing.com (I think that is the site). Ironically the car ended up 2 buildings down from my machine shop.

The local Police aren't going to do anything - told me it is past the statute of limitations! It is also not my engine/trans anymore - it is the insurance company's that paid me. But the state police was notified, and several other police friends of mine are involved. I can't go into any other details at this time.

Congrats Paul! You ought to try to buy it from the insurance company, it's almost worthless to them.

paul- couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

mwritter is damn right...the insurance company isn't gonna want it. make them an offer that sounds halfway decent and they'll probably sell it to you in a minute. i had a friend get his 383 LT1 stroker engine back this way from an insurance company. he had to buy back the car, which was totaled, but he got the engine and put it in another car.

i wasn't around back in the day but i'd love to hear the story.

Damn laws protecting thieves again. Want your stuff back? Crack heads until the original theif / theives are dearly sorry. The only good theif is a dead one. Yes, having gone thru catching a couple theives stealing and destroying my stuff, then I am the only one who gets in trouble, I have NO RESPECT for laws protecting them or those with tin on their chest who won't bust the theives anyway. I will NEVER EVER go out the door past a loaded gun to catch a theif again without using it first. Paul, I am gald your stuff was found, but the laws of limitations should end when your stuff needs to be returned to you. Some scum is still profiting from stealing from you.

I'd have to agree about how odd some laws are......BTW, I"m still trying to figure out why PA has a seat belt law but allows no helmets on motorcycle riders...NOt that I have a significant opinion about either, I just scratch my head about the logic that passes one is the opposite for the other...Seems very "Sponge-Bob-ish" to me.

Cool Similar...

but not as happy an ending. A friend got his National Record holding Camaro [stick class] stolen along with the trailer. Thieves thought they were stealing his son's '68 Camaro...also a record holder. Anyway, lost his Jerico and his spare, as well. I was working at Jeg's 11th Ave. store and a fellow tries to sell me his Jerico " 'cause he doesn't like it in his street driven Chevelle." No *****! wanted $1200. I got his number...my friend met him, identified the tranny and his rear end. He asked me if he should take a gun or cash to go get his parts. I suggested both, just in case. Anyway, police refused to act without witnesses. They found the car cut up in a field locally and later found the trailer stuffed full of stolen four-wheelers. Busted a three state ring of thieves. All he got back were the bits and pieces. Shoot them on sight and swear they were about to attack you. That's my security plan. Good luck. Ron

Hmmmm, Let's review what the Bible say:

If a man wants your coat, give him your shirt two.
If the boss tells you to carry his stuff a mile, be willing to walk two miles.

If a man trys to enter your home at night, then (Do your own homework rather than eat heresay from me.)

Oh, uhm: Thou shall not steal. The payment for sin is death. HIS

Believe me, it would have been cheaper and far less hassle to have shot the theives then to confront them. Shoot first, and say; "I was afraid for my life when he attacked me first". If I would have, it would have been over then and I could have avoided losing 3 years of my life over some scum theif.

Good luck in finding your stuff Paul, hope you can get it back. Ron how long ago was the incident at Trails? If memory serves me correct a similiar theft occured just before I moved here to NC in 95, I can't remember if it was a MoPar class racer or a Chevy.

Not to stray too far off topic, but you never know how close theft items can be! My neighbor (seemed like a straight shooter) got popped with a garage full of HOT speed parts, jet skis, motor cycles and a jet boat. Scary part is, his 12 year old son would stop bye from time to time and check out what I was doing in the garage. Fortunate for me, I’ve been without incident since I’ve been there. Knock on wood!
