Definitely unique. I assume that was to pay homage to UNC Tar Heel blue? What size rims/tires are on there now?

I would assume the same regarding the UNC local colors.

What is the backspacing on the 18s? I'm looking at some 18x8s with 4.5" backspace for my 70 GTO and they're saying anything wider than 225 will rub.

In NC , UNC Tarheels are referred to as Carolina [Carolina Blue] NC State Wolfpack as State Duke ... is Duke [tarheel fans pronounce it Dookie - yeh that kind of dookie] UNC fans are so engulfed with their devotion, anything that shade of blue is immediately an infringement on their trademark, and falls under their patent. They claim that God is a Tarheel fan, and the sky is Carolina Blue. So its always a special thrill to whoop UNC, when you pull for State or Duke. 98% of Tarheel fans never attended ANY college, most never finished High School. |

I still think you'll be fine w/18x8's and 4.5" backspace. |

I believe 4.5” backspacing is the only thing available without some kind of a special order. Mine were bought off the shelf and do not rub with 245s in front. I also have 2” drop spindles and tubular control arms. I can’t speak to stock front suspension measurements. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Also noticed your car was built with column shifter (no console on Invoice).
It looked like an aftermarket floor shifter in the for sale ad with a consolette. Pretty unique order arrangement combined with Formula steering wheel and tach & gauges. Definitely a hand picked special order car, with special paint to boot. |

Now that you say it, it originally had a black bench according to PHS. That would have been a column shift, correct? This car has had so many things changed on it. I’m glad to have one that’s unique but still ok to drive anywhere and customize as I’d like.

I was able to mark the for sale ad as sold. Hopefully it will drop off there one of these days!
Baron, It does have a B&M Pro Stock shifter, which I recently put back in. I also have a full stock console and stock shifter for it. I never got that little console with the cup holders that you saw in the ad! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Could get the Column Shifter with Buckets or Bench - no cost alternate.
They selected Bench Floor shift would have incurred extra charge as Console . and Buckets only , when ordered with console . |

Manual coming soon on mine, but I will stick with no console for the aforementioned reason.

Holy CRAP! I was in the passenger door panel tightening up the side view mirror and came across my build sheet.... in near pristine condition (comparatively speaking)!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot believe it! So now we have a confirmed paint code, but I cannot find my decoder ring. Anyone have a list for this paint code? A quick google search didn’t find it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Congrats on the buildsheet!
The paint number is a Dupont number, I don't have that one though.

That is a GeneralMotors/FisherBody Mfg Dupont Mix Code
926 = just means Solid / Non Metallic 97689 is the mixing formula number 1966 Cadillac Mist Blue -Code 20 - WA3505 The civilian/aftermarket Dupont paint mix number is 4720L That is the number a Dupont paint jobber/supplier would use for the mix and on the label. After looking up Code 20 from a 66 Caddy. That is the best number to go by usually, if trying to cross reference in future. Versus the 97689 Mfg # L = Lacquer it also equals the lowest price code suffix. (same price as White and Black) I used to mix Dupont automotive paint at a jobber in the early 80's LH, LK, LM, LT etc,,, were higher priced colors going higher up the alphabet 926 prefix replaced the old 93 prefix later into the 60's Ditzler/PPG - 13151 Dupont - 4720L Acme - 5091 RM/BASF - A1804 Sherwin Willy - 147 No guarantee this would match to the car now. It should match any jamb areas that are still factory paint. They probably picked a close match from a paint chip book when they repainted it. We should have just told you to check behind BOTH door panels. In the late 80's i found 2 different buildsheets in 2 different Atlanta cars (71 and a 72) and thought it was driver side, from distant memory. HeavyDuty Congrats on the lucky-duck find ! Cool how they noted to use an Adriatic Blue Endura Endura cars with Special Paint got generic color Endura (usually black or white), and Dealer had to paint them to match. Quart of un-thinned lacquer usually accompanied the car from the build plant. I don't know how each dealer handled the additional labor for that. Most probably required an additional up-charge. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...=1966&manuf=GM https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdis...&info=&page=32 Scroll down to bottom of that page for color chip Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 06-02-2020 at 01:00 PM. |

Thanks for the replies! Baron, you’ve nailed it. I sent out a research request with TCPGlobal and they came back with the same 1966 Cadillac Mist Blue color. So its not Carolina Blue, unless Mist Blue is Carolina Blue just renamed for the local Tar Heel fanatics?
I’m incredibly excited to have found this build sheet AND that the body number in the sheet matches my trim tag! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I don't think there even is a color standard for "Carolina Blue".
Anything close in that shade usually gets re-named that , at least in NC. Even Baby Blue isn't called Baby Blue anymore, its Carolina Blue powder blue, sky blue, etc ... all get the Carolina reference. They'll grab anything that is that shade of blue. But that 66 Caddy color is a great representative. The NC Dealers probably did rename it as an extra part of the sales pitch. 64 Pontiac had a Skyline Blue that was close, but paler. 69 or 70 Chevy/GMC trucks had a similar blue. iirc , Nick Nolte drove a 66 Mist Blue Caddy Vert in Beverly Hills Cop movie with Eddy Murphy. There was a 66 GTO special paint car in my hometown for a long time, it was the 66 Caddy color. But everyone called it a Carolina Blue GTO. It looked good in that color too. I almost bought it , but it was a bit raggedy by that time. Last edited by Baron Von Zeppelin; 06-04-2020 at 05:15 PM. |

The endura bumpers were pre-painted by the supplier/manufacturer.
Probably too much lead time required to have them do 1-off special colors. Endura cars with Special Paint got generic color Endura (usually black or white), and Dealer had to paint them to match. Quart of un-thinned lacquer usually accompanied the car from the build plant. I don't know how each dealer handled the additional labor for that. Most probably required an additional up-charge. The 71 Judge special paint Orbit Orange got a Black Endura. And the owner left it that way all along. |
