Hi Tom. I ended up talking to Bill Turner. He told me back in day, the car ran drags in Florida. Car was named Satisfaction. Was a very strong runner with the factory 3:73 gears. It's would hang and beat the the smaller body cars. NICE guy!!!! Thx.

Default 65 2+2 421 HO

Looking at the post above on the Reef Turquoise ‘65 offered via Mecum I see a grab bar on the dash. I have asked about this before but never seemed to get a definitive answer. Is this likely something that somebody just added from a GTO or were these factory installed on 2+2’s? If this was a factory install which cars got it and which did not? Based on the cars I’ve seen over the years, I’ve never been able to determine this. Maybe all the grab bars I’ve seen on these cars were transplanted from a GTO, My ‘65 column shift auto car does not have one.

Your 421 emblem looks real good. What did you use for the red.

You've done a real nice job!
From the pics, I don't see the center carburetor mounted kickdown switch, is the switch mounted near the gas pedal (like on later years)?

Re the question from Terry M. Hunt about the grab bar -
They were standard equipment on the GP and Bonneville in '65. Not available from factory on the Catalina, including 2+2 option.
A friend of mine bought his '65 2+2 new, and 2 weeks later walked in to the parts department at his dealership and bought a grab bar - he'd seen it on another car and liked the look. I agree - it helps to fill the right side of the instrument panel and sends a subtle message - "Hang on!". Pontiac missed the boat on this - should have been included in the 2+2 option.
I've bought one for my '65, but can't bring myself to drill holes in the dash panel, so it sits in a drawer. Maybe someday.

Great job on your 2+2 restoration!

Yes I did mount the kick down switch at the rear carb. Might move it to the center carb later. Very tight in that area. Thanks for the compliments. I also like the grab bar.

I saw pictures recently showing a rear carb mount. I was going to try that set-up on our car. After spending a couple hours futzing around with it, I went back to center carb location. Tweaked the switch bracket here and there, and yeah, it's tight, but I got it dialed in now. Agreed that Pontiac should have included the "sissy bar" on the 2+2's, the GTO's big brother.
