Default Water Pump Sleeves Install

I have the 69 and up style timing cover and 11 bolt water pump. I bought a new timing cover and new sleeves and need to know how these sleeves are installed. I thought they fit in tight but they just drop in with no resistance. Do I silicone these in or do they just sit loose in there??? I know the divider plate will hold them in but am concerned about water by-pass. I would like to hear what others do when installing these.

They drop in and will be held in place once the water pump is installed.

There are seals that go on them and they only seem to come in a full gasket set.

My bad!
The water pump sleve seals come in the Fel pro timing cover gasket set also.

What do these water pump sleeve seals look like never even heard of them. Are you sure they are for an 11 bolt water pump? When I lay the divider plate on top of the timing cover it sits right on top of the sleeves so where would these seals go?

Default They are actually replacement rubber rings for the tubes

You pry the old ones out and use these new ones.

They only work if the sleeves are still in good condition.

They're inside the end of the tube right where the plate touches.

See the rubber seal on the end of the sleeves:

If it's a used timing cover a lot of times the fit of the tubes is loose and the casting will allow some coolant to flow out back into the suction side of the pump and loose some efficiency. I like to take a little Ultra Grey and put a very thin layer just under the flared top to obtain a 100% seal. Probably overkill but can't hurt anything either. I don't get carried away with the sealant because I figure that someday I might be the one going back in and pulling them back out on the next R&R.

I have a new timing cover and new sleeves and the sleeves have the seals in them. Steve confused me when he said there are seals that go on them thought I needed something else.

When I installed mine, they were sloppy fit too. I figured this was the way they are. The old ones were in tight. But, there was a lot of build up from the years corroding around them. I figured that was the difference. Once tightened, I figured the rubber seal would do it's job of sealing.

Default wp tubes

I bought a pair of new ones but they fit looser than the originals. I think there were new rubbers in the felpro gasket set. I installed the new rubbers in the old tubes. Original parts are always best I think. Billk

I have NOS GM tubes, and when fitted to a new timing cover, they fit loosely.
IDK... Seems like I recall noting a difference in them back in the 90's, but that was a lot of brain cells ago.
I guess as long as they fit against the divider plate, and seat into the timing cover, they should be fine.
