I'm going to order and install a new exhaust system on my GTO. What's the best way to keep it from corroding or rusting?

Are you going with steel, aluminized steel, or stainless steel?

Probably steel. I think I'm going to get a Gardner reproduction system. Stainless would be nice but I don't think I want to spend that much money.

Go for aluminized steel. Reasonably priced and lasts pretty well too.

Is it coated steel? I am looking for something that will look as original as possible and still hold up well.

It is steel pipe with an aluminum coating on it. Looks more or less the same as plain steel but doesn't rust immeadiately. I've got a set of aluminized pipes that have around 10,000 miles over a period of 5 years and no rust on 'em

Thanks for the replies. I'll check with Gardner to see if they have an aluminized version of their exhaust system.

I'm pretty sure all of Gardner's systems are aluminized steel. If you are not driving in the rain often, your exhaust system will stay aluminum color for at least 3-5 years. Other options for keeping the exhaust show quality are;

Ceramic coating
1500 degree silver paint
stainless steel
