I have a 64 Catalina Safari wagon and I'm trying to find brake shoes. This place lists them but the on-line catalog says they're out of stock. Anyone know where else I can get them.
Thanks, Rick |

Take the shoes you have and have them Relined.
There should be a brake shop in your area that can do this for you. Usually I'm found working on my Pontiac. If you want to find me Look for the white picket fence and all the old Pontiacs parked outside. And the half dissembled engine sprawled all over the driveway!

Maybe I should have been more specific. This is my daily driver and the only car I own that I can install the baby-seat in. I'd rather not have it laid up for more than a weekend.
Thanks though, That's a good idea. Rick |

I'm afraid that you will have to do it that way.
The replacment shoes do not have the hole for the brake adjusters on the 63-64 cars. The backs are available at the parts houses but the fronts are not. Usually I'm found working on my Pontiac. If you want to find me Look for the white picket fence and all the old Pontiacs parked outside. And the half dissembled engine sprawled all over the driveway!

Check around. My parts guy can get anything I need. I know my buddy in my club that has a '63 Bonneville got all his stuff local.
Give me a thumbs up, tell me "Nice Car!", but for god's sake, don't call it an Impala. |

I agree. My local parts guy got the front and rear shoes for my 64 wagon. Evne JC Whitney shows a listing.

Try Praise Brakes down around Rockwall, Tx. I don't have a reference right now but you can search the web or try the Car Craft website. I'll try to remember to look 'em up.

Give these guys a shot, http://www.then-now.com/ . They are right down the street from me and have ways to get everything you need. They will ship anywhere, and if they don't have it they will make it in their shop.

Thanks everyone,
I could find no place in my area that does brake relining. Even the truck brake shops don't do it anymore. I ended up finding the shoes from Ames and Blackcat was right. No hole for the adjuster on the front. The guy at the parts store said to just leave the adjuster off but I decided to take Pittsburgs advice and drill them out. Worked fine. Now I have to figure out why it pulls to the right when I brake. Thanks again, Rick |

The shoes in the passenger side are closer to the drum, catching first, and applying more pressure than the drivers side. Its a fairly easy adjustment. I didn't know Lexus made a GTO? |

I really don't recomend drilling the shoes.
It works but the slot maks the adjuster a potentual failure point being weaker from the drilling and now having less material. Just something to consider. Usually I'm found working on my Pontiac.
