im a bit dissapointed, but hey these are magazine results... we should see even faster times in the right hands.
Acceleration, sec
0-30 mph, sec 2.0
0-40 mph, sec 3.0
0-50 mph, sec 4.1
0-60 mph, sec 5.3
0-70 mph, sec 7.0
0-80 mph, sec 8.7
0-90 mph, sec 10.7
0-100 mph, sec 13.1
1/4-mile, sec @ mph 13.62 @ 104.78
Braking, 60-0 mph, ft 120
600-ft slalom, mph 63.5
200-ft skidpad, lateral g 0.80
3,725 lbs. (not specified if dry or curb weight, I expect it is curb)
The car is a manual 6 speed. I also hear the bottom of the car sports many bash plates for unimproved Australian roads. This car is built to last on dirt roads, but looks to be a few hundred pounds heavier than a Trans Am.

SHAME ON PONTIAC!
The cars put in the media's hands have been detuned and the traction control button "disabled" so that it cannot be turned off.
The result is that timing is being taken away and the cars can barely turn the tire!
This all done so that the magazines don't distroy the car.
Poor, poor, poor. The cars should have been left alone...or event juiced up a bit. The magazines had to sign waivers that they would not have one of thier techies enhance things with LS1edit, etc.
Pontiac let out a GTO to a magazine knowing full well it was going to be run side by side with a Mach I in a drag test and the car was still left in the detuned state.
Come on Pontiac...I love the car, but how can the world know how capable the car is if we don't let the press have only "the best" of what is to be offered!
John DeLorean would have had a fit!

Isn't this history repeating itself? One of the early test cars (back when there was a real Pontiac GTO) was a 65, convertable, four barrel, auto trans. It was of course, a slug. The magazine (Hot Rod?) was not impressed. All the "press fleet" cars got the Bobcat treatment after that. I wasn't there, but that's the story I read.

Well, I would say that if it turned a 13.6 in a detuned state. Then with a proper driver and everything up to par should be a low 13 high 12's car.
Sounds good to me.

He's right...I read a report saying the same things....not allowed to play with the car, and the engine protection software was pulling timing out of the advance way too early....still pretty quick, though

The Pilot cars were not actually detuned at all in actuality. The cars had the full production spark and fuel tables, no premature retarding under normal driving conditions (aside from the normal torque management). What they DO have is a 1500 RPM rev limiter (fuel cut type) with your foot on the brake and in gear (4L60 only). The TC buttons DOES work, but it does not turn off the parameters attributed to the vehicle being at a dead stop, once at speed it's easy to hang the tail out in a burst of smoke if your so inclined. Anyone familiar with ABS/TCS systems can cirvumvent that problem in about 2 seconds with the pull of a fuse, the rev limiter problem requires a little more thought but it's easily bypassed temporarily as well. That being said, I don't honestly see the removal of the TC/Rev limiter on the Pilots helping THAT much, I still think that most likely the lowest we will see is 13.4.-13.5 considering the weight of the car. However we all know what a powerhouse the LS1 can be with just a few simple bolt ons
