"I didn't think THAT cam would be one of the XE's, having a 114 LSA...."
All twelve of Butlers custom hydraulic roller cams listed in the link below are made up of Comp XE lobes, he varies the lobe separations: https://butlerperformance.com/c-1234...-cam-kits.html In addition Dave Bisschop's custom Old Faithful 2 hydraulic roller cam uses a XE lobe. .

I wonder what folks think about this cam for a 400: https://butlerperformance.com/i-2936...tegory:1272239
Butler/Comp Roller Cam (HR) 282/288, 230/236, .510/.521, 114 LS (Std Firing Order/ Std Journals) "Fits between the 423 (mild) and the 433 (radical) Cams from Comp with wider lobe separation. Similar in size at .050" as a Ram Air IV except more lift. Also makes much power than the Ram Air IV with a broader power curve."

78MayanW87, "XE" is short for the Comp Cams Xtreme Energy lobes, which are typically used in conjunction with a 110 lobe separation. However many choose to have custom cams made using these specific lobes but with a different lobe separation, often wider such as Butler has done.
Unfortunately all too often when "XE" is mentioned many jump to conclusions since some have had issues with their use. However as it has been mentioned before the XE cam bashing is almost always involving a hydraulic flat tappet cam and not a hyd roller cam or solid roller cam. In addition the reported issues with the XE hydraulic FLAT tappet cams could be, but not always, be related to either a geometry issue or the need for more rate in the valve spring. .

Similar to the 51-423-11 but with wider lobe separation, smoother idle, a broader power curve, and more vacuum (HR) (Std Firing Order/ Std Journals) 276/282, 224/230, .503/.510, 114 LS Slightly more vacuum than a 112 and produces a little smoother idle. |

I plan on changing out the rear gears based upon all the feeback here and am seriously considering a TKX swap as well. I reached out to SST for a quote and it really wasnt too unreasonable.

Nobody would be happy with those gears unless you’re just highway driving through the flat desert, LOL. Quick Performance in Iowa can help you with something that’ll get your bird moving for a reasonable price. They’re building up a 9” for my LeMans right now with 3:60’s. Best of luck with your plotting and planning, sounds like a fun project! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After some research, I think that I am leaning towards the Quick Performance: GM 8.5" 10 BOLT / EATON DETROIT TRUETRAC POSI / GEARS / BEARING KIT / PACKAGE with 3.42:1 gears. I would still appreciate any input that you all have. Thoughts? Lee
