Default Get it or forget it?

My dad bought a new Mercury station wagon back in ‘88. 302 v-8 and simulated wood siding. He died 2 years later and my mom moved from Chicago to Tucson. Mom passed years ago and my brother drove it in Tucson every once in a while. Now brother has passed and my sister bought his condo, car included. She asked me if I want it-free
OK. This has no sentimental value to me, but COULD be a offbeat, rust free toy. I don’t really know if it’s worth the shipping cost or hassle to get it up here to SW Wisconsin.
Any opinions? What say you?

As a wagon guy, I would jump on this opportunity before she changes her mind!

There is a 90 Crown Vic wagon on Bring a Trailer as I type this, bid to over 10k,and it doesn't have the fake wood!

Go get it!

Guess it depends on how much it was driven, is it beat and high miles or mint. Turbo that thing and it’s a nasty little street cruiser!

For free I would take it. Drop it, add Saleen wheels, 373’s and long tubes. Make it a really fun off the wall ‘oh damn did you see that’ car.

Hopefully the wood decals are in good shape or available.

I'd do it. The Mercury was basically the same as a Ford Crown Vic, and if you want there are all kinds of upgrades available for them.

I'm not a wagon guy. If I dont like a vehicle, and if it doesn't have any sentimental value to me, it won't be anywhere near my garage. I have a rule where I only own what I like. If I have to talk myself into owning something, it ain't for me.

If you like wagons, nothing is cooler than a free vehicle. If not, dont get it, as it'll just take up space. You could sell it as long as everyone is on the same page.

Well I have my grandfather’s car, he’s dead. The original owner of my GTO is dead……
Yeah, we don’t live too long in my family, so I enjoy life while I’m still here.
I just messaged my sister to see if I can get a few more details. I believe it has about 75,000 on it. My mother also had a garage, not a carport down in Tucson, so it’s been inside since ‘90. Tucson can destroy outside kept car interiors.

I'm in the same situation. Dad passed in 2007, my mother passed in 2020, I ended up with a 1999, ex Mary Kay Pontiac GP SE sedan. It of course is Mary Kay pink, plain jane cloth interior, and a 3.1 V6. it gets almost 30 MPG on the road. They bought it one year old in 2000 when it was turned back from lease.

It's not the best car to own, but it had low miles, (71,000) and it's an AZ rust free car, plus it belonged to my parents. Yes I went to get it, yes it's sentimental. It makes a great daily driver. It's a constant reminder of my parents. No downside that I have had. One of the best things, no rust to deal with. You can't get any cheaper than free.

Get it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Yes it’s free, but I’d have to ship it here. I had my Duramax shipped up here from Phoenix a couple years ago, and that was $1400, which I think was cheap. With the price of diesel these days, I could see it easily costing over $2000. That’s what’s been making me second guess the whole thing.
My wife is supposed to fly down there with my sister next month, so she’s a lot better judge on condition as compared to my sister.
