72 GTO TXV Insulation
It's been many years but if memory serves me, there was some sort of insulation that went around the thermal expansion valve. It would have been located directly on the valve itself and where a clamp secured it to the heater case. Can anyone confirm or share a picture of an un-touched one?
Was it foam insulation or the cork insulation? My fuzzy memory, but I recall an insulation at the base of the valve and wrapped so it was secured by a clamp. Most times it was severely rotted du to exhaust manifold heat and age. |

The bulb from the TXV is clamped to the upper evaporator tube ahead of the POA and wrapped using cork Insulation tape.

Yes Sir and thank you.
To be more descriptive, I am asking asking about the valve body itself. So to paint the picture. From the condenser at the front of the vehicle, following the ling to the TXV valve. There is a clamp that goes around the valve body and attaches to the heater case. From there the line goes into the evaporator and to the insulated sensing bulb...to the POA. Is the base of the valve insulated? I seem to recall, but need to verify. |

I've looked at and around the TXV and could not find any indication of insulation on either side of the TXV. I compared the photo I took with the 1972 Pontiac Service Manual & GTO restoration guide illustrations. They do not show any insulation in the area you described.
