It could be the Chevy 229 V6, forgot about that engine, A/C compressor on the drivers side means its a Chevy engine.

The roof looks like once upon a time someone vandalized it with brake fluid from an eye dropper.
The rust around the trim tag and spots on the roof were all I needed to see. I've looked at cars before that were stored under tarps for many years. They generally develop weird rust spots on the roof as with this car. I told him it was probably a rust bucket. He was hell bent on getting it. The seller got him all pumped up about too. He learned a lesson...

The 229 didn't come on the scene until the 1980 models. It was available in Lemans, but not GP.

For 1978, the only V-6 for a GP would have been the Buick. That had a smaller air cleaner (plus distibutor on the front), so you called it right that the CL car has a 305.

25-30 years ago, there was an identical twin (color comb) GP as that car, sitting in the garage of a nice house down the road from where I worked. You could see that it was in immaculate condition from the road.

It looks like the seller delberately tried to crop the photo of the trim tag so that a big rust hole on the firewall wasn't visible.
It also looks like the tag is being held to whats left of the rusty metal by dum dum, or J-B Weld.

I'm thinking it was originally all brown.
It looks like a Chip Foose creation, without billet wheels.

I think this may have been posted before, of course its still for sale at that price, but it is Canadian dollars and he is going to have to take a lot less if he wants to sell it. Not far from me, if it was more complete I'd go look, but it sure would cost a lot to make it right.

Too bad about the two tone. I think it ruins the lines of the car. Looks like a real nice car otherwise. That's a lot of car for that money.

I had a 86 Suburban with that two tone, looked OK on it, But I think the answer for this car would be to paint the bottom to match the top.

It's bad enough someone painted it mopar yellow and put the butt ugly stripes on it, but why would you advertise it as a 455 HO when it's got a SBC in it?

I love this car. If it was closer to me I would think about it. I do think though at the price of 12,900 there must be issues

I see what you did there.

The fact that he's asking $3,000 should tell you something.

I'll bet he picked it up for less than $1500, and trying to flip it.

I think, what he was trying to say is it is certified as a 455HO car and he has the engine for it (negotiable on the engine).

But would you really want it anyway??? Terrible colour combo and with that engine in it, where would you start. I'll bet that thing is chopped up terribly underneath.

How about a 1978 Catalina Enforcer on the NJ C/L for $1600? Seller claims it has the T/A 400 in it but I doubt it, It does have the chrome valve covers though, and is that some sort of belt guard on the A/C Compressor?
