Default Is this the correct Underhood Light for a 1971 Trans Am

I'm looking for a correct 1971 Underhood light for a Trans Am.

Does anyone know if this is the correct part?

I have never saw an underhood light on a 71 Trans Am. That don't mean there wasn't.

grp.8.890 Underhood Lamp Jumper Wire Assembly 8903938 69-72 All

I don't think the underhood lamp was included on a'71 TA. My '71 has the optional courtesy lamps (under dash and trunk lamp). Never any evidence or indication of an underhood lamp.

I agree, but I have a 73, and this page in my assembly Manual has a big
discontinued stamp on it. Was not included in my lighting package 73 Formula

If your car is a Formula, then that one won't be 'correct' or work.
It needs a separate ground wire since the hood isn't metal.

As to it being for a TA, it's been a long time since I looked at the light on my old 73 TA.
(don't own it anymore)

My build sheet says otherwise as it has the "conven lamps" (661) package and then individually lists an underhood lamp.....I also have a single mounting hole underhood in the spot as shown on the assembly manual. BTW, as far as I can tell the "correct" underhood light fixture only has one screw mounting hole which would jibe with the assembly manual as well as the attached pics from a '71 formula with the "conven lamps" (661) package.

Should say, the hood on your 1971 is not original and is a later hood. It has been replaced. Believe it was a 1972 or possibly 1973 we took it from. You can tell by the 4 square holes when you open it and look at the leading edge. 1970 and 1971 only have two square holes in that leading edge.

Not that it matters as far as an underhood light goes.

IMHO,...your pictured lamp assembly is an incorrect reproduction part that some venders offer as "original". The only original Firebird underhood lamps I have ever had were on '71-72 Esprits, & they had a single screw mounting somewhat similar to what HiyabradHO shows.
