Default What could be holding the engine up?

Have the transmission out to install a 5 speed and replace a chattering clutch.
I noticed after I supported the engine under the oil pan that the engine kind of just hangs there. Didn't drop, nothing hitting. Could the exhaust thats still intact be holding it up.
Are the Pontiac motor mounts strong enough to support the motor?
Worked on a few Chevy's and that would never happen even with the exhaust still attached, the engine would still drop. Thanks is advance!

The engine mounts will hold the engine if the tranny isn't hanging off of it.

/\ beat me to it!
The bolts can be out of the mounts, but they will still hold the engine in place... it will lean a bit to the back though.

No, motor has even dropped at all. Plenty of fan clearance

So it is supported at the oil pan and you wonder why it didn’t or won’t move?

Wow, guess I need to explain that. Had the engine supported under the pan, removed the blocks, with the aid of a bottle jack, again under the pan. That is all sitting on the bridge that connects to the ramps on a lift. To see how much it would drop. Moved maybe 1/4" to 1/2".

Quick follow up
Loosened the exhaust at the manifolds and engine dropped maybe another inch. This really helped with install of the Tremec. The pontiac engine mounts are really stout!
