Default Gift of Emglo 230 v compressor that doesnt build air.

A friend I'm helping him with his o gauge train display offered me an Emglo 230volt 'V' 4 cylinder air compressor with 60 gallon tank 'free'. His family had calligraphy business they just sold. The compressor starts runs quiet but doesnt build air. He said someone left an air valve open and the compressor kept running. How can I check if its valve sealing or other problems? Going to pick it up tomorrow. Thanks.

Check to see if the cylinder head gasket is blown, or if a reed valve is stuck open. This has happened to me a few times over the years. Would just run and run, but not build pressure.

Ok thanks. I never had one apart. I have a 3/4 hp Emglo I've had for 40 yrs still runs. This was a 'gift'. From Emglo performance and weight charts I have this unit is heavy. So I'm taking it apart to get it out of the building. I dont have service manuals though. We will see.

Well not good. All 4 rods are broken. Crank spins easy. Not sure about condition of journals. Block, cylinders, and heads look good.

Well got the broken rods out. Maybe ok ,good news. Jenny(Emglo) told me crank may be good. Why, aluminum rods. I looked at crank journals one set very good. Other set has aluminum sticking to journal. Maybe polished out.So now remove flywheel, no set screws or key just roll pin. So 3 jaw puller and some heat.
