Trying to figure out where to mount my coil braket
Can’t seem to know where to install it

No I have the original date codes distributed. Is that odd for my year

Mounts to the throttle bracket, which is bolted to the intake, DS BEHIND air cleaner. Pics are in your ass y manual, which you did buy, right?

that i know how about this one , or is there a better one to buy.
sorry about all these question , but i can only work on my car late at night since my younger brother ( 53) is dying of cancer and i spent a lot of time with him now. i promise i will buy a manual , just want to get the best one out there cheers to all the guys that have helped me along the way |

1972 was a weird year. It uses a different bracket than the 70 and 71. Look for a 73 or 74 (pre HEI) bracket. They are pretty much the same as the 72. The reason for the change was that the 72 intake manifold had a slight alteration to the intake runners and the heat riser which forced them to alter the throttle cable bracket mounting points and thus the coil mounting spot.
The 1972 coil mounts to rearmost holes in the driver's side cylinder head and NOT The throttle bracket like 70 and 71. Last edited by njsteve; 11-09-2020 at 09:21 PM. |

That bracket is just like Steves, take out bolt and slide it on the intake stud
|

I think that bracket is made for bolting to the throttle cable bracket.
Is there a part number on that coil bracket?

I have been trying to save pictures of correct/untouched stuff, and figured these images might be of interest to you;
unrestored/untouched 1972 Pontiac 400 with a points distributor (unfortunately the images are a bit small). oh!! How about this!!

thanks for all these photos it is a great help . the bigger photos is what i need to do , but the bracket i got is not exactly like the one in the photo

grd777, your bracket looks like a pre-'72 unit. If I get out to storage in the next week, I'll try to get pictures of a '72 and a '73-4 bracket.
