Outer window window sweep question
My '70 formula came with decor molding, but I decided to forgo that in favor of the base trim. This means I'll be using the outer window sweeps with the small stainless bead...I had GM 9612538 and 9612539 pieces stashed away. But when we went to fit them on the car, the holes don't line up. The trim doesn't quite make it's way over the top of the door with the existing holes. Does it sound right that we'd have to re-drill the holes for the non-decor sweeps?

The screws go in the vertical slots, correct?

Here's the problem. When I line up the screw holes in the sweeps with the screw holes/slots on the inside of the door, the sweeps don't reach high enough for the lip with the bead on it to reach to the outside of the door...almost like the holes in the door are too low, which seems odd to me. I know early 70-71 doors differ in a few areas, but I always thought the sweeps were interchangeable from 70-81.

so, based on your pic, the "slots" do not go up far enough?
That is odd, but the way the skin is on this can be different on cars after 1970. I just did a GM door skin on a 70 and had to weld this part to the skin and was noticing the difference to other year doors. Totally possible your parts were made in the 1980's as well, and maybe the inside support was closer to the shell top where its welded. I do have a few factory 1970 doors I can get a pic from if needed |
