The Rally II's always had trim rings. Only the Judges came without.

These pics are from the mid-1980's, so the car was already 17 years old at the time. Lots of things were probably changed and/or modified. Looks like someone did some creative Ram Air mods, probably got tired of that little factory air filter up in the hood. Appears the upper pan got butchered in the process.

Thanks for posting the pics! I love the color combo....I'm not sure why....

how do you figure the pan got butchered?? it hasnt had one thing done to it other than the ring removed and yes he kept it along with the screws that hold it up and the screen for the lower pan. to my knowledge that pan has never been off of the hood. he also did remove the trim rings when it was fairly new as he used it for a weekend fun drag car. i have the trim rings still wrapped up and put in the box they have been in since somewhere around probably 1970 or 71.

Great car Gary , I can't remember time line on those pics u sent but your prob. close .Always wanted to see it. I tried to stop and see you and that car a few times when I was in town .
Why is it that as soon as you post a few pics of a extremely rare car like that someone finds something negative to say? Thanks for posting .

Gary, I wasn't being negative, I appreciate the pics of the car. I mistakenly thought your car was all original, never touched, etc. My fault, I didn't mean to criticize, I just misunderstood. I actually meant to say the foam was butchered, not the pan itself. I saw the aftermarket valve cover breathers, alternator, etc. My mistake.

thanks for the compliments, i am very lucky to own it (however, way back then i paid 10k for the car when it was probably worth at top top retail maybe 5k.) and even more special that it has been right here since day one. it only has 70k miles on it. there is not even a hint of rust anywhere. every original piece of the car is still there. anything he took off of the car, he boxed it up and saved it. the car was used as a weekend street / strip car. it ran consistant low 12's and on nice cool evenings would break into the high 11's. most of its life it ran around with 10" rear slots and 7" front slots and M50's on the rear. it didnt see much racing after 1973 when he bought a brewster green SD-455 4 speed and then did the same thing with it. i bought the SD car before the ra4 and let a guy talk me out of it back in 1980 and then he let some kid drive it a week after buying it from me and the kid rolled it and totalled it out.

boss, you are just jealous that you didnt sport the miami vice shirts and the mullett hair. but it is not too late unless you cant grow hair anymore.

You are a slave to fashion Gary! LOL! Never had a mullet, no leisure suites either.

Time to put it back together & tag it again - move it up to the garage!

I wish I could download some of your guys’ knowledge into my head! Reading threads like this just reinforces my passion for the 69 Firebird! I certainly plan to due a justifiable restoration on Buffy, but unlike dad’s GTO, her #’s don’t match.
