Looks awesome!

Nothing wrong with under the axle tail pipes. The welding looks good!

Thanks, I'll pass that compliment along to my son. He sure got lots of practice tigging all those little sections of straight pipe together.

Well, today's the big day! Need to pick up a few items this morning (fuel, distilled water, fire extinguisher). Frank and my friend Tim (who helped out with the wiring) are coming by this afternoon to assist. Fingers crossed.

Good luck! If it runs and drives anything like it looks, you'll have a big smile on your face soon.

WooHoo! Fingers crossed for you! But sure you have it worked out as much as possible!

What wheels did you end up with again? A nice side shot would be good!

Well, we didn't get her started...no spark. Doesn't seem that the ignition box is sending a signal to the coil, so need to talk to FAST tech support.

Being a half glass full guy, there were some positives. First, the FAST ECM triggered the fuel pump through the Vaporworx controller. Wasn't sure how well they would play together. Second, the fuel system pressurized and there were no leaks. Was nervous about leaks given this was the first time I made my own hard and soft lines. Third, the RobbMc starter turned the engine over easily and seemed to be adjusted perfectly. Finally, lights and sound system worked. Am really pleased with how the stereo sounds through the amplifier and sub.

Didn't work on the car over the weekend...helped paint my son's '79 Y84.

HWYSTR...wheels are Forgeline GA3, hyper silver outer hoop, satin graphite hub, hidden fasteners (18 x 12, 18 x 10).

Wow, those wheels look fantastic!

What offsets did you use?

Really would like to replace my ROH wheels, but, with everything going on in my life right now, doesn't look like it's in the cards.

On the no-spark thing, guessing you have the type set to IPU, but are you seeing an RPM signal? If not, the ignition will never fire.

Can check the dizzy setup, crank reference angle, crank timing value, etc.

Thank! Rears are 5.5 backspace (-25mm offset), fronts have 6.125 backspace (+15.87mm offset). These are DSE recommendations (for their narrowed 56.25" rear end housing and subframe) but I verified with a wheel fitment tool. Overall, happy with how everyone looks, though, if I had to do it again, I would do a few things differently. First, I think I would have gone with stock rear end width so as to have similar + offset as in the front....this way could run more contemporary non-deep dish forged monoblock wheels. Second, the 335 30's don't quite fill up the rear wheel well the same way they do on a 2nd gen Camaro...could have gone 19"... I may try 35 or 40 series. Third, I think a little less backspace in the front (maybe .125) would have been better. This way the front wheels would be more flush with the openings and I could have one less steering limiter on each side...I might try a spacer at some point.

I drew out how we wired everything on a piece of paper and immediately realized that there was no signal from the distributor to the ignition box to trigger the spark signal for the coil. With the EFI ECU connected to the distributor, the only option I could see was the points output on the EFI ECU to the points input on the ignition box. Bingo! She started right up. She won't idle without some throttle, so some tuning is in order, but at least she's running. And no leaks except the RH valve cover, which wasn't tightened enough.

For some reason I'm not able to post a link to the video from my computer. If someone wants to post it for me, I'd appreciate it...I can text you the video.

Fantastic, Jeff!

Super happy to hear you got her fired up and running. Hopefully your tuning adjustments will be simple and easy.

I'd be happy to try and upload your video, but not sure if I'd have any better luck. Text me if you'd like me to try.

Can't wait to go for a ride in her!

Thanks Todd! I’ll let you know when she’s ready for her maiden voyage. Would be great to get together, go for a ride and catch up. Would love to have her all buttoned up by Goodguys in November. Not sure she’ll be autocross ready but that’s the goal.

All important engine function are available on the EZ EFI handheld, except for oil pressure, so I decided to try to get the gauges working before I let the engine run for any length of time. I'm confident that everything's OK, but better to be safe than sorry!

Unfortunately, I ran into a snag. For some reason the main Digital Dakota box is making a high pitched squeal when I connect it to the gauges...spent an hour on the phone with tech support, but they're not sure what's wrong. They're sending me a new connector harness and we'll go from there.

In the interim I got a few other things sorted out. RH headlight and parking lamp were not working. I assumed the issues were related because they're on the same side and spent an hour thinking about how this could be given that the side marker worked and grounds were secured to the same screw. Turns out, two completely different issues. The Dapper headlight connector was plugged in the wrong way. Even though polarity matters, the plug goes on either way and markings are faint, but silly mistake on my part. The park lamp was more challenging. The socket on the aftermarket housing was messed up. The connector buttons on the bottom of the socket were frozen and would not spring up against the bulb when inserted into the socket. I ended up having to pull the pins out of the socket and bend them slightly. I thought I had an extra set of parking lamp housings on my shelf. Although they look correct, I noticed they only had the two leads on the socket (no negative). Does anyone know what these are these for?

I also spent some time sorting out the wipers. The way I had them wired, there were two issues (a) off was all the way to the right, on was all the way to the left, and (b) there was no low speed. I reversed the two outside wires on the motor, which took care of issue a. Issue b had me stumped but then I remembered that the wiper switch housing needed to be grounded. That took care of b.

All for now. Going to work on my son's car today.

I had the same issue on some repro back up lamp housings I bought for a '65 Mustang I was recently restoring. They probably use the same socket...

The new Dakota Digital connector cable arrived today...it fixed the buzzing issue, and now all the gauges power up and cycle like they should. The only remaining issue I'm trying to sort out is that I'm not getting any information to the gauges from the FAST ECU through the BIM module, so no RPM & engine temp (or fuel pressure, A/F ratio). One of their engineers is investigating. Fortunately, oil pressure, speed, voltage, and fuel level don't go through the BIM. So if I have to bag the BIM, I'll just have to run a couple more wires from the engine bay to the tach and temp inputs on the DD control box. Not a big deal but would like to avoid having to run any more wires.

Since the oil pressure gauge was working, I decided to do a little tuning to see if I could get her to idle better. First thing I tried was opening up the throttle blades a little (which closes the IAC a bit)...that's all it took!

Finally feel like I'm on the home stretch. Once the BIM issue is straightened out, I'll spend some time tidying up the wires in the engine bay and under the dash. After that, should be ready for a voyage down the driveway.
