I made the slots in the driver side molding. I used a thin cone shaped carbide burr and was able to cut through the metal without cutting through the rubber on the other side. So, these slots can't be seen at all when it's installed.
It worked well and allowed me to bend to correct the contour. Totally acceptable now. I'll do this on the other one tomorrow.

Got the other side done. It wasn't bent quite right towards the rear as well as the contour in the front so I had to cut more slots in this one.
Hardly noticeable on the inside. Looks fine now:

For the record, I bought some of the repops.com beltline felts and it looks like they were cut with a dull utility knife. They fit good to the body contour but the ends just look hacked up. My originals also looked a little funky on the ends but not nearly as hacked. I’m going to call legendary interiors (where I got them) on Monday and see what they think.

Could you post a picture of how you screw the convertible top pinch molding over the beltline felts?
I thought it was just held in place by the last screw in the window felt, but mine doesn’t line up ver well and I tossed my original quarter window felts so I don’t know what they are supposed to look like on that end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Btw, you've got your door window seals reversed. The end notch on the glass side seal goes to the front of the door. The door seal in the photo should be on the passenger side. Quote:
I saved one of my original quarter window seals. It appears like it was intended for the rear hole to line up with the tab on the end of the pinch weld molding. But the rear hole on the replacement seal is forward of the rear hole location on the original. I drilled a new hole to the replacement seal. I think the easiest solution will be to install the pinch weld molding first and use a flat head screw on the molding tab. Then install the window seal on top of it.

Btw, on my last post I meant I don't know and hadn't given it thought yet.
Here's a photo showing the notched end of the door seal on the front of the door: Also notice that the manufacturer of mine pinched the ends of the stainless bead where yours show a fresh cut open end. The old factory one I saved has pinched ends as well.

Thanks for the compliment!
Btw, if you end up returning what you have and getting the sweep seals that I have, this is the tool I used to cut those slots. It's just an ancient HF die grinder with a cone shaped carbide burr.

I ended up emailing repops directly. They are very responsive.
I sent pics of the sweeps they sent me and a pic of your car's sweeps showing he what I thought they should look like... He emailed me right back: " I’m going to make you some new pieces as soon as we get back from GOODGUYS at Columbus. It seems that they are making these notches so they can “bullet the ends” but to me I think it looks bad. But this is a manufacturing issue so no worries on your end. I’m going to make you a set that looks like the pic you sent of the red car" I'll post up pics when I get the new ones so that if someone is reading this in the future they can see how Repops look, etc. Seems like a good company. Hope the replacement set look more finished.. |

Wow. Sounds great. I sure hope he nails it with your replacement set.
Yes, post some photos when you get them installed.

I found the answer:
https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=826489 I wondered if that was what had to be done. I really couldn't see any other way to do it.
