I just run across a 455 that is code WX.
It came out of a 76 Trans Am.Is it a
4 bolt main???Thanks

If it has a 76 casting date. No it is not.
Most 4-bolt 455's were built between 1970 to
1974 end with the 455SD's

The block has a 75 cast by the distributor
hole.I have got to clean it and get the
casting dates a look see.Thanks

Bad news:
Not only doesn't it have 4-bolt caps, but the '75-'76 455 blocks weren't even factory drilled for 4-bolts.

Sorta good news:
If it's for the street, you can get by with 2-bolt studs ok.

Sorta good news 2:
If it´s for racing, you can have it drilled for splayed 4-bolt main caps.

Now here's the bad news, those blocks ten to have very thin walls, so if it needs to go .060 over have it sonic test first. Actually being that it's a 455 block I would have it sonic test anyway, I have a friend who didn't, and he just went .030, the block crack on his thrid pass with only 1200 mile on his new motor.
